Upgrade to front-end question
Hi all, I have to "upgrade" my current exchange 2003 to be a Front End Server to fix a OMA and activesync issue, but I have some questions 1. I have no back end server - do I need one? 2. This is a "live" server - will it knock out all the current settings and users? 3. Are there any side effects? I am just nervous to hit this check box without find out all I can first. -Thank You!

Hi, It's advisable to have a seperate front-end and back-end server just for security reasons. If it has any effects ? It dependson how you are gone do it, if you change IP's and DNS names it will have some effects. In that case you may need to change some firewall settings and dns settings. If using certificates also ensure that the front end will get the same name. Regards, Johan blog: www.johanveldhuis.nl

I am not changing anything except for that little checkbox that says "Front End Server". I just want to make sure if I hit that little checkbox - it doesnt squash all my current users and settings.
