Upgrade from Windows 2008 Standard to Windows 2008 Enterprise with Exchange 2010 installed
Hello, I have a Windows Server 2008 Standard server with Microsoft Exchange 2010 installed. The server is currently utilizing the 32GB limit and I need to upgrade to Enterprise to get the OS to utilize the additional memory I added. I've seen you can do an online upgrade from Standard to Enterprise, but I'm afraid this process might break Exchange if the installation modifies any system files by using the following command: I know this will not work on a DC. DISM /online /Set-Edition:<edition ID> /ProductKey:XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX. Does anyone have any experience with this? For obvious reasons I don't want to setup a new server with Enterprise installed, migrate all the users over, remove exchange on the old server, upgrade the OS to Enterprise, re-install Exchange and then move the users back over.

It is not supported to "upgrade" the OS to a different version while Exchange server is installed.Tim Harrington | MVP: Exchange | MCITP: EMA 2007/2010, MCITP: Lync 2010, MCITP: Server 2008, MCTS: OCS | Blog: http://HowDoUC.blogspot.com | Twitter: @twharrington

Hi, I would not do that because it is not supported. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread.
