Updates....
I need to install Exchange 2007 SP3, Exchange 2007 SP3 Hotfix Rollup 1 and Forefront Protection 2010 for Exchange Hotfix Rollup 1. I have My roles on separate servers, Mailbox(MB), Client Access(CA). Hub(HT), and Edge(ET). Forefront is running
on all but CA.
My thinking is to install in the following order.
Ex2k7SP3 - CA, HT, ET, MB
Ex2k7SP3RU1 - CA, HT, ET, MB
FPE2010RU1 - HT, ET, MB
Looks and sound right?
Any words of wisdom before I dive in?David

That seems ok, particularly as you have to disable Forefront during the installation of the service pack - see the release notes for information on doing that.
CAS first, mailbox server last is the rule.

Thanks.... so...
Stop Forefront services
Ex2k7SP3 - CA, HT, ET, MB
Ex2k7SP3RU1 - CA, HT, ET, MB
Start Forefront services
FPE2010RU1 - HT, ET, MB
Should I do Ex2k7SP3 on each one, then Ex2k7SP3RU1 on each one.
Or, Ex2k7SP3 and Ex2k7SP3RU1 on one then repeat on the next? David

Hi,
That looks right yeah.
I like to install all updates on the first server before going to the next, so I would go for ex2k7sp3 + ex2k7sp3ru1 on CA, then same on HT, then ET and last MB.

Thanks.
And you would save the forefront update for AFTER the exchange updates?David

Yes I would, Exchange fixes first then forefront. I don't think it matters much at the end, but it seems the workflow is easier that way, at least for me :)

Read the release notes for the service pack, as I think there is more to do with Forefront than just starting/stopping services.

Thanks for all the help.
I staggered the installs so all 4 were in some stage of the process at once.
3 of the 4 required a reboot to "finish some previous install" before I could install SP3
The first machine to get SP3 took 15 minutes "removing exchange files".
I think maybe it was really extending Active Directory Schema?
In any case it took 2 -2.5 hours but I think it's done.
I'm checking now to make sure all is well.
One concern is that this whole deal was brought on by the notification that I needed to upgrade Forefront because support for Kaspersky 5 was going away.
Well, Forefront seems to still be using Kaspersky 5.David

Forefront services only needed to be stopped before SP3 install

In order to get Kaspersky 8 to work I had to follow the instructions in this link

AND delete
\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Forefront Protection for Exchange Server\Data\Engines\x86\Kaspersky
