Unusual case of removing a new Ex2010 server but leaving the original Ex2003 in place
In an existing domain with an Ex2003 server, I deployed a new Ex2010 server on a new VM host. The plan was of course to eventually migrate over all mail services from the Ex2003 server to Ex2010, then phase out Ex2003. But now the entire domain is to be eventually phased out (it's a retired call center). The Ex2010 server is tying up a VM Host I now want to move elsewhere. SO I would like to uninstall Ex2010, leaving the Ex2003 as is (so I have time to export a large number of old mailboxes). Note that no mailboxes have yet been moved to Ex2010. Seeing that this "backwards" migration would probably be a very rare situation, I'm not sure if removing the newer of the two Exchange server will cause any strange issues. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Hello So you want to uninstall Exchange 2010 server. As you mentioned you have not moved any mailboxes from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010 server you can simply uninstall exchange 2010 server. Below are few points you can check. 1- You should not have Exchange 2010 Public folder replica on any of the public folder 2- Incoming and outgoing Mails are routed from Exchange 2003 to internet and to any other exchange server if you have 3- Offline address book generation server is E2k3 server 4- RUS still have E2k3 server listed 5- None of the mailbox is present on Exchange 2010 server Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
