Unread Emails in Outlook 2010 Clients shows both UNREAD AND READ emails when connected to Exchange 2013 Server SP1

We recently upgraded to Exchange 2013 SP1 with a client user-base of Office 2010 Professional Plus / Outlook 2010 SP3.

All Unread Email favorites folders show both Unread and Read emails, just like the inbox. Removal of the folder and recreating yields the same results, as does creating a custom folder. However, in Outlook 2013 there is no problem.

Is there a patch or hot fix for this issue? Or does anyone know how to fix this issue so that the UNREAD EMAILS SHOW UP IN THE UNREAD FOLDER AND NOT INCLUDE THE READ EMAILS?

Thank you!

Please stop yelling.

What do you mean "removal of the folder"?  It's not really a folder, it's a view of the results of a search.  Exactly how are you adding this folder back?

What do you see if you open OWA and click "unread" at the top?

I also use Outlook 2010 Pro Plus (11.0.7) against Exchange 2013 (Office 365) is working fine for me, showing only unread items.

Hi Kim,

Please remove the problematic folder from OWA and follow these steps to create a new Unread Mail folder for your mailbox:

1. Disable Cached Exchange mode in Outlook 2010: uncheck Use Cached Exchange Mode in Account Settings.

2. Restart Outlook and use Outlook Online mode.

3. Create a Search Folder for unread mail:

Click Folder > New Search Folder > Unread mail > OK.

4. Right-click created Unread Mail folder in Navigation Pane, click Show in Favorites.

5. Enable Cached Exchange Mode and restart Outlook again.

Then check whether the Unread Mail folder in OWA can work correctly or not.

Thanks,
