Uninstall Exchange 2007 SP2 on Windows Server 2008 R2
Hello everyone, I got the follwoing situation: Exchange 2007 with SP2 on a Windows Server 2008 R2 - I know this is not supported and I don't know how my client managed to install this anyway. The problem is that I can't update to SP3 nor can I uninstall the whole Exchange while migrating to a second, clean Exchange 2007 with SP3. When I try to manually update to SP3, the Setup fails, telling me that "setup.exe" and "exsetupui.exe" are blocking files. I set up a second server with Exchange 2007 SP3 and did a full migration to the new server. I then wanted to uninstall the Exchange with SP2, but the uninstallation fails with an error message, that Exchange SP2 is not supported under Server 2008 R2. Does anyone have an idea how to gracefully get rid of this Exchange SP2 server?

He would have did a Recover Server throught a Registry Tweak -- Turn off the Server - Make Sure your Exchange Works fine PF folders - OAB - Mailboxes - Mail flow -- Now you can remove it throught ADSIedit.msc -- Take a Good System State Backup on the DC Remove the Server Object from Below Location Click Start, point to Programs, and then click ADSI Edit. Expand the following items: Configuration Container CN=Configuration, DC=<var>Domain_Name</var>,DC=com CN=Services CN=Microsoft Exchange CN=<var>Your_Organization_Name</var> CN=Administrative Groups CN=<var>Your_Administrative_Group_Name_Or_Exchange5.5_Site_Name</var> CN=Servers Satheshwaran Manoharan | Exchange 2003/2007/2010 | Blog:http://www.careexchange.in | Please mark it as an answer if it really helps you

Hi Michael, I'm afraid you have to own the risk. Any unexpected issue would not be supported by microsoft. For your scenario, I would suggest you call PSS directly: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?id=fh;en-us;offerprophone By the way, Manual Removal of Exchange 2007 Is Not Supported. The only method that I can think of that might work is to DR the server. Shutdown the old server, build a new one with the correct versions, then install Exchange with the /recoverserver switch. Once the install has completed, remove Exchange using add/remove programs. The only combination that is probably going to work is Windows 2008 and Exchange 2007 SP2 - I don't think trying to DR using Windows 2008 R2 and Exchange 2007 SP3 will work. Otherwise you will have to call Microsoft Support. Simon.Simon Butler, Exchange MVP Blog | Exchange Resources | In the UK? Hire Me.
