Undeliverable message with attachments
Every time that a user tries to send a email with attachments (usually less than 10 mb) they get this error: his message exceeds the maximum message size allowed. Microsoft Exchange will not try to redeliver this message for you. Please make the message smaller -- by removing attachments, for example -- and try sending it again, or provide the following diagnostic text to your system administrator. The following organization rejected your message: Requested. I have followed everything that I have found on internet about it and still does not work. the users have unlimited MB for attachments. I have gone thru the options of changing the size limites and still does not work. these are a couple links, but I have looked at more: http://blogs.technet.com/b/sbs/archive/2008/10/28/how-do-i-change-message-size-limits-in-exchange-2007.aspx http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:MALMR8bs3ykJ:support.microsoft.com/kb/957813+this+message+exceeds+the+maximum+message+size+allowed.+Microsoft+Exchange+will+not+try+to+redeliver+this+message+for+you.+Please+make+the+message+smaller+--+by+removing+attachments,+for+example+--+and+try+sending+it+again,+or+provide+the+following+diagnostic+text+to+your+system+administrator.+The+following+organization+rejected+your+message:+Requested.&cd=3&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us I updated to SP2 to check if that helps and nothing. Help here please. I have Exchange 2007 on Windows Server 2008. thanks

"Requested"??? Are you saying that the domain you sent the e-mail to rejected the message as being too large? If that's the case there's not much you can do to affect the outcome since their limits aren't under you control. A 10MB email size sure suggests an attachment (unless you have very prolific tyists!). If you reduce the size of the attachment by compressing it before you attach it to the message doe that help? You can check your server's SMTP log files to see if the other organization is rejecting the message. --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP

I don't know what "Requested" means. I dont think the domain that I am sending the emails is the problem because the problem happends with different domains. If I reduce the size like 5 MB does not work. There is always the same organization "Requested" thanks for your help

Also, post the entire NDR. There's insufficient information in the tiny bit you alreadyposted. --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP

See if your problem is a badly set message size restriction. Note that it doesn't check for limits onf distribution groups, public folders, mailboxes, etc. Note that if your organization was upgraded from an Exchange version prior to Exchange 2007 you should run set-transportconfig to set the GLOBAL limits to be the same as your ORGANIZATIONAL limits. They'll usually be the same, but there are times when they are not. There's some line folding on the 'add-member' cmdlets so be sure to get the whole thing on one line. :-) ### CUT HERE #### $connectors = @() get-sendconnector | foreach { $conn = new-object PSObject $conn | add-member NoteProperty ConnectorType 'Send' $conn | add-member NoteProperty ConnectorName $_.Name $conn | add-member NoteProperty MaxReceiveMessageSize '-' $conn | add-member NoteProperty MaxSendMessageSize $_.MaxMessageSize $connectors += $conn } get-receiveconnector | foreach { $conn = new-object PSObject $conn | add-member NoteProperty ConnectorType 'Receive' $conn | add-member NoteProperty ConnectorName $_.Name $conn | add-member NoteProperty MaxReceiveMessageSize $_.MaxMessageSize $conn | add-member NoteProperty MaxSendMessageSize '-' $connectors += $conn } $tc = get-transportconfig $conn = new-object PSObject $conn | add-member NoteProperty ConnectorType 'TransportConfig' $conn | add-member NoteProperty ConnectorName '-' $conn | add-member NoteProperty MaxReceiveMessageSize $tc.MaxReceiveSize $conn | add-member NoteProperty MaxSendMessageSize $tc.MaxSendSize $connectors += $conn get-routinggroupconnector | foreach { $conn = new-object PSObject $conn | add-member NoteProperty ConnectorType 'RGC' $conn | add-member NoteProperty ConnectorName $_.Name $conn | add-member NoteProperty MaxReceiveMessageSize $_.MaxMessageSize $conn | add-member NoteProperty MaxSendMessageSize $_.MaxMessageSize $connectors += $conn } get-foreignconnector | foreach { $conn = new-object PSObject $conn | add-member NoteProperty ConnectorType 'Roreign' $conn | add-member NoteProperty ConnectorName $_.Name $conn | add-member NoteProperty MaxReceiveMessageSize $_.MaxMessageSize $conn | add-member NoteProperty MaxSendMessageSize $_.MaxMessageSize $connectors += $conn } $connectors | ft -auto ### CUT HERE ### --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP

Any line in that file that BEGINS with "$_." or "$tc." (there were 7 of them when I looked) really belongs at the end of the previous line. --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP

Picking at nits -- it's probably not involved with your problem, but 20MB isn't 20000KB, it's 20480KB. If you do change that, don't forget to replace the 20000KB in the set-transportconfig, too. > >------------------------------------------------------------------------------- > >$connectors = @() >get-sendconnector | foreach { >$conn = new-object PSObject >$conn | add-member NoteProperty ConnectorType 'Send' >$conn | add-member NoteProperty ConnectorName $_.Name >$conn | add-member NoteProperty MaxReceiveMessageSize '-' >$conn | add-member NoteProperty MaxSendMessageSize $_.MaxMessageSize >$connectors += $conn >} >get-receiveconnector | foreach { >$conn = new-object PSObject >$conn | add-member NoteProperty ConnectorType 'Receive' >$conn | add-member NoteProperty ConnectorName $_.Name >$conn | add-member NoteProperty MaxReceiveMessageSize >$_.MaxMessageSize $conn | add-member NoteProperty MaxSendMessageSize '-' >$connectors += $conn } > >get-transportconfig | foreach { >$conn = new-object PSObject >$conn | add-member NoteProperty ConnectorType 'TransportConfig' >$conn | add-member NoteProperty ConnectorName $_.Name >$conn | add-member NoteProperty MaxReceiveMessageSize $_.MaxMessageSize >$conn | add-member NoteProperty MaxSendMessageSize $_.MaxMessageSize >$connectors += $conn >} >get-routinggroupconnector | foreach { >$conn = new-object PSObject >$conn | add-member NoteProperty ConnectorType 'RGC' >$conn | add-member NoteProperty ConnectorName $_.Name >$conn | add-member NoteProperty MaxReceiveMessageSize $_.MaxMessageSize >$conn | add-member NoteProperty MaxSendMessageSize $_.MaxMessageSize >$connectors += $conn >} >get-foreignconnector | foreach { >$conn = new-object PSObject >$conn | add-member NoteProperty ConnectorType 'Roreign' >$conn | add-member NoteProperty ConnectorName $_.Name >$conn | add-member NoteProperty MaxReceiveMessageSize $_.MaxMessageSize >$conn | add-member NoteProperty MaxSendMessageSize $_.MaxMessageSize >$connectors += $conn } > >$connectors | ft -auto > >--------------------------------------------------------------- > >I GOT: > >ConnectorType ConnectorName MaxReceiveMessageSize MaxSendMessageSize >------------- ------------- --------------------- ------------------ >Send domainname - 50MB >Receive Default SERVER01 20000KB - >Receive Client SERVER01 20000KB - >Receive Internet 20000KB - >TransportConfig Transport Settings --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP

Hi remember a 10MB email limit doesnt mean you can receive an email that is 10mb, there is native compression and encapsulation that exchange applies to message so you have to allow for this too i.e if a user sends in an email that is 10Mb you wont receive this becasue it will be larger than at the mail gateway than 10mb what we usually say to people in our org is that the limit is 10mb but you will receive an email no larger than 8.5 - 9mb usually why dont you create yourself a 10mb file and a 9mb and send it in from your hotmail account and on your edge server or mailgate server whichever you use track the message to see what happens.. this is for sure the first step in troubleshooting. let me know how this goes please patrick Patrick
