Unable to update Windows XP
For an unknown reason Microsoft suddenly doesn't seem to want to let me update my desktop PC I'm using Windows XP service pack 3 and up to date I've never had a problem, but now each time I try to go to the update site, I get a browser page with the following message:- Use your Start menu to check for updates Windows Update is now included in Control Panel. In the future, to check for updates (or if this webpage doesnt open Windows Update automatically):Click the Start button, click All Programs, and then click Windows Update. Followed by a couple of images of a Vista start button. The url of this webpage is http://www.update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/vistadefault.aspx?ln=en-us, which is strange as there's never been Vista on this machine. If I check updates from my laptop, which also has XP sp3 installed, I can update normally from this page: http://www.update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us, however if I manually enter this same url into my desktop, it immediately diverts me to the vista page again. Has anyone else come across this problem and are there any suggestions as to how to overcome it? Incidentally, the same web page appears regardless of where I try to update from, the control panel, directly from the Microsoft website, from IE7 or from within one of the Office programs I have installed. Other than the last set of updates, no new software has been installed.

Hello, This is Exchange Server Deploy forum, I would suggest you to post your query in Windows XP SP3 forum. XP SP3 Forum: http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowForum.aspx?ForumID=2010&SiteID=17

Definitely post to the Windows Update forum -- but, I suspect your firewall or security software is blocking Windows Update. I would never suggest turning these off permanently, but you might try that just to test to see if they are blocking your ability to update your computer. Did this happen right after applying Windows XP SP3?

With apologies for posting in the wrong forum, my error. I'll repost correctly, but to answer your question, I have tried without my firewall but the same problem occurs, and it wasn't immediately after installing sp3, I've done another couple of routine updates since then.
