Unable to start Mailbox Replication Service
As title states I'm having troubles getting the Mailbox Replication Service running. I've retired my old Server 2003 / Exchange 2003 in favour of Server 2008 R2 / Exchange 2010 SP1. In the process I've swung the Exchange data over to a temporary Server 2003 / Exchange 2003 server running out of Hyper-V on the parent server. When I attempt to start the service manually the service will start then immediately stop. The application log will show the following error: Log Name: Application Source: MSExchange Mailbox Replication Date: 08/11/2010 12:03:09 PM Event ID: 1010 Task Category: Service Level: Error Keywords: Classic User: N/A Computer: server.domain.local Description: The Microsoft Exchange Mailbox Replication service failed to start. Exception details: The TransportManager failed to listen on the supplied URI using the NetTcpPortSharing service: the service failed to listen. I've installed all available updates for Exchange and Server 2008R2. Any suggestions warmly welcomed. Thanks in advance.

Running any 3rd party apps on the box (e.g. Backup, AV, Monitoring)? It might be that they are using the same port. Try disabling those services temporarily and see if that pinpoints the problem. Any further info in the System event log? Alexei

Thanks for the quick reply. The only 3rd party application that I can think of is Symantec Backup Exec 2010. I've disabled all related services and attempted to manually start the Replication service only to get the same error in the application log. The only other error that seems relevant is an Event ID: 1001 immediately after the Event ID: 1010 which just tells me that the replication service stopped.

Hi ILRC, I also run into the several same issues like yours, it is exactly related with the thirdparty software. I would suggest that you uninstall all the third party software and make a test. Regards! Gavin
