What is the way you are using OWA to send as another user? Are you trying to use https://mail.domain.com/owa/username@domain.com? Are you able to send as that user using outlook?MMilind Naphade | MCTS:M | http://www.msexchangegeek.com

Hi,You need to haveSend as mailbox persmission on the mailboxto do send as from the account. To do the same use the below command to get send as access and full access on the maiboxAdd-MailboxPermission -Identity <username> -User <mailboxrequiringpermission> -Accessright Fullaccess -Extendedrights Send AsUse following article in the below link to do send as from the different mailboxhttp://smtpport25.wordpress.com/2009/03/17/send-as-in-owa-2007/Regards,Krishnahttp://smtpport25.wordpress.com

If I put in https://mail.domain.com/owa/username@domain.com it tells me I do not have permission. If I'm in Outlook then it's ok.

Still the same problem. From what I've been able to find out via google, it is not possible in OWA and this also apply in e2k3. Can someone confirm that this is true?

Hi, Yes you cannot send as from OWA in the same way you do send as from Outlook. You need to open the the mailbox and send directly from the mailbox. Which inturn acts that you sending mail on behalf of some one mailbox. I hope this clarifies your concern Regards, Krishna http://smtpport25.wordpress.com

Hi Sure, it is unable to use send as feature by using OWA. The send as feature canbe just used in outlook (exchange2003,2007). If you want to use send as feature in outlook, you should grant the send as permission for a mailbox by EMC or EMS first. You can refer to below link: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998291.aspx And then, you can send mail from the send as accountin your outlook. If you want to send a message by using another account in OWA, you can achieve it as Krishna said. But you must add your account into the accounts Full Access Permission list first. The method is just using another mailbox to send message, but not using the send as feature.Hope useful for you!

Hi Gavin, The "send as" option does not exist in Exchange 2000 to Exchange 2007 but will be available in E14. The setup that I would like to have available via OWA is because it will be in an isolated domain for external users to use such as call centre etc. Thanks for your help all.

Yes, this is true. Exchange 2000-2007 doesn't have option for From field in OWA and this is introduced in Exchange 2010. Exchange 2010: Send As and Send on Behalf Of in OWA http://exchangeshare.wordpress.com/2009/07/06/exchange-2010-send-as-and-send-on-behalf-of-in-owa/ However workaround is to give Send-As permission as well as Full Mailbox access to open mailbox of any other person in OWA. Let's say USER A works under Call Center and you want to allow him to SendAS for a mailbox called "Call Center". ~ Give Send-As and Full Mailbox permission to USER A on "Call Center" mailbox. It takes couple of hours to make this permission effective due to Information Store service cache. ~ Ask User A to open mailbox of "Call Center" in OWA with https://<Server Name>/OWA/<SMTP Address> with using user id and password of User A. ~ Send mail from there. If you would like to setup read-only mailbox for certaincircumstances, refer below article... Micheal, I have a different opinion here !!! We can open USER A's Mailbox as USER B in Oulook as well as OWA. Here's what you need to do... We need to do an expicit logon rather than an implicit one.... Eg: www.mail.contoso.com/exchange --> Implicit logon www.mail.contoso.com/exchange/user alias --> Explicit logon. Now, you need to type in www.mail.contoso.com/exchange/userA'salias --> When you get the prompt, type in USER B's credentials..... if you have Send As, Receive As Permission for USER B on USER A, OWA will open and will show USER A's mailbox and then you can start sending emails... In Exchange we use a specific account for this purpose --> Service account.PFA Article: How to assign service account access to all mailboxes in Exchange Server 2003: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/821897 The concept is different in E2K7.This is for a server level:Get-mailboxserver <servername> | add-adpermission user <service account> -accessrights GenericRead, GenericWrite -extendedrights Send-As, Receive-As, ms-Exch-Store-AdminFor individual user:Add-MailboxPermission -identity "user" -user "serviceaccount" -AccessRights FullAccessJust to let you know, Blackberry uses Explicit logon to for the user to access his device. Please let me know if you have any questions. Ratish

HI all, thanks for your help. You guys are right about the Send As rights. Much appreciated. I know E14 has "send as" rights in OWA but it is still beta and will not be out by the time I put the system in place. Again much appreciated.
