Unable to reconnect a restored exchange 2003 mailbox
Hi all, I have a legal restoration request, for which i am trying to restore mailboxes from old backup. I have this problem, user A mailbox was in exchange 2003 during the backup, and currently his mailbox is in exchange 2007(migrated from 2003 to 2007). After restoration when i try to reconnect the disconnected mailbox of user A to a dummy user B(doesnt have any exchange attributes) it throw the below error message. > --------------------------- Exchange System Manager --------------------------- The operation cannot be performed because this mailbox was already reconnected to an existing user. ID no: c1034ad6 Exchange System Manager I tried by changing the legacyExchangeDN value of userA to something else, but still same error. Could someone assist me, what are the other attributes should be checked, so that i can connect the restored disconnected mailbox of the user A to a dummy user B to extract the mailbox items. I am aware of the option, to take a copy of user A's exchange 2007 mailbox, delete mailbox, remove exchange attributes of user A, connect the restored disconencted mailbox to either user A or to any other dummy user, extract contents... but ruled out since i cannot get downtime from user A for his current mailbox. Looking for a way to connect without disconnecting the user A's 2007 mailbox. Thanks.

you cannot recover from an Offline Exchange 2003 DB into an Exchange 2007 or 2010 Production Server using MS tools and processes, only way to do this would be to use a 3rd party tool like Lucid8's DigiScope http://www.lucid8.com/product/digiscope.asp which will allow you to open any offline Exchange database so that you can Browse, Search, Export Mailboxes, Folders and Individual Items to PST & MSG or in your case you can import/migrate data directly from the Offline Exchange 2003 database into the Production 2007 serverTroy Werelius www.Lucid8.com Search, Recover, & Extract Mailboxes, Folders, & Email Items from Offline EDB's and Live Exchange Servers with Lucid8's DigiScope

Hi akumar, Seem like you still have the Exchange 2003, if possible, please move Exchange 2007 mailbox back to Exchange 2003, then use RSG to restore mailbox. Please note: To use a Recovery Storage Group, the Active Directory topology of the Exchange Server 2003 computer must be intact and must be in the same state as when the copy of the database was made. This means that the mailbox or the mailboxes that you want to recover must not be deleted or purged from the system, or moved to a different database or to a different server. How to use Recovery Storage Groups in Exchange Server 2003 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/824126 Otherwise, try 3rd-party application.Frank Wang TechNet Community Support
