Unable to open ECP with server FQDN.. Error executing child request for /owa/auth/errorFE.aspx

I am facing a weird issue..

I stood up a new server on a remote site and am trying to access it's ECP using the server FQDN but I get an error message within IE saying "Error executing child request for /owa/auth/errorFE.aspx

I figured I'd try with my existing servers, I am getting the same thing. The only way I can get into ECP is by using the External address..

Figured I would have a look at the ECP Virtual Directory through the shell but when I try to get the authentication information, it takes forever and doesn't return results... If I try through ECP (using the external address), I cannot open the auth page, I get the please wait box for hours..

Anyone ever experienced this?

Hi mdeschenes,

Thank you for your question.

If there is coexisted with Exchange 2010, we should access ECP by: https://<FQDN of CAS>/ecp/?ExchClientVer=15

First, make sure Exchange could connect to DC without any problems(include DNS resolve) and DC replication is no problems.

Then make sure the following authentication has been checked:

  1.        Default website: Anonymous
  2.        ECP: Anonymous and Basic
  3.        OWA: Basic

Then restart IIS service by running iisreset /noforce from a command prompt window to check if the issue persist.

We could check if there are any errors in application log and post them for our troubleshooting.

If there are any questions regarding this issue, please be free to let me know.

Best Regard,

Jim

It is coexisting with Ex2010 but I shouldn't need to use ExchClientVer=15 as the account I am trying to open the ECP with is located on Ex2013. This is confirmed by the fact that I can open the ECP with webmail.domain.com instead of serverfqdn.domain.local. I gave it a try anyways, still get the same.

I confirmed all of the permissions on IIS and Virtual Directories, I have what you suggested expect I have Windows Auth also (since I don't want a credentials box to appear).

I have 6 Ex2013 servers, 3 of them work fine, 3 of them give me that error.

Do you have any other suggestions?

This is now affecting all of my servers.. if I try to open via the local server FQDN, I get the "Error executing child request for /owa/auth/errorFE.aspx" error message. If I connect via the external URL it works fine...

IE https://exch2013-01.domain.local/ecp doesn't work but https://webmail.cotonso.com/ecp works, even if webmail.cotonso.com resolve to the IP of exch2013-01.domain.local.

I can't seem to figure out a glimpse of cause for that.

Hi mdeschenes,

Please run the following command and make sure the internal url is https://exch2013-01.domain.local/ecp:

Get-ECPVirtualDirectory | Format-List Name,InternalURL

Then make sure Exchange directory configure is default by the following link:

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg247612%28v=exchg.150

If there are any questions regarding this issue, please be free to let me know.

Best Regard,

Jim
