So do you have previous Office 2013 Trials installed?  Have you tried running an uninstall of those first before you did the Office 2013 install?

Hi,

This issue occurs when you try to install a Windows Installer (MSI)-based version of Office 2013 on a computer on which the computer manufacturer has already installed a version of Microsoft Office 2013.

Please have a look at this KB article, uninstall any existing Office applications and try again:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2792178/en-us

If you can not uninstall it from Control Panel or cannot find Office in the program list, I'd suggest to run Microsoft Fix It tool, this will help you to remove any traces of existing Office installation:

Hope this helps.

I've exactly the same problem as Rigel Nightworks. I've tried all options above and many more (removed old all Office keys from register, remove Office directories in C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared, etc.), but none of them all works. Is there any solutions available from MS?

HI. I had this exact same problem. Mine was to do with the KMS activation failing after I mistakenly installed a O365 Small Business on a server and later realised I would need a VL install for terminal services RDP sessions. No matter what I did or what registry entries I deleted it didn't work.

One persons suggested (This worked for them, but would not work for me)

  • Navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared
  • If there is a folder called OFFICE15 or OfficeSoftwareProtectionPlatform delete      that folder.
  • Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Microsoft      Shared
  • Same as above, If there is a folder called OFFICE15 or OfficeSoftwareProtectionPlatform delete      that folder.

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2013_release-office_install/office-2013-activator-error-25004-even-after/eed3a057-4ff9-401d-af49-04c0262223af

So after hours of messing about, I figured out a work around. This will only help you if you can use a MAK key.

1) uninstall any versions of office 2010 or 2013 you may have installed. OBVIOUSLY :)

2) run the office 15 Click-To-Run remove tool. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2739501/en-gb

3) Reboot if required

4) Copy your office CD to your HDD (you need to add some install instructions)

5) Launch and admin command prompt and navigate to where you copied your cd files.  Then run your office setup with the command -  setup.exe /admin (example c:\2013>setup.exe /admin)

6)  This will launch the office customization tool

7) Go to Licencing and user interface - select enter product key - load in your MAK key with no spaces (it will insert dashes) - accept the licence agreement

8) file - save - and name the file (eg. 2013.msp) and save it to the updates folder within you office install. (eg c:\2013\updates\2013.msp)

9) exit the tool and command and run setup.exe as per normal. (you may need to run as admin if required)

This worked for me and I hope it solves your issues too.

I have exactly the same issue. Inadvertently installed a OEM copy of Office 2013 onto a licensed copy of Server 2012. Needed to install a VL Office 2013 for RDP services and the install bombs out and uninstalls itself with the screen shot above.

I have tried all the steps above and even utilised a third party reg scanner to find any orphaned Office files and references.

All to no effect.

Anybody with additional ideas?

Success, found the offending file that prevents the installation of the Office 2013 VL product key.

You may need to re-license all installed Microsoft software products however our OS is still reporting as being activated after deleting this file.

This is the steps taken to delete / rename the file that doesn't get updated when a OEM or trial copy of Office 2013 gets un-installed and prevents the installaion of VL software:

The following steps were tested on Windows Server 2012 R2 the location of the tokens.dat file may be different on other operating systems.

  1. Make sure the Software Protection Platform Service is stopped
    net stop sppsvc
  2. Rename the tokens.dat file
    C:\Windows\System32\spp\store\2.0\tokens.dat
  3. Recreate the tokens.dat file
    slmgr.exe /rilc

Hello,

I have one question about your Office Pro Plus license: it is purchased separatly throught volume licensing or it is the license includes in Office 365?

on the Server you can install only the license purchased separatly throught volume licensing.

If your license is through VL, than maybe you have an existing Trial Version of Office Pro Plus on the same Server.

thanks
