Unable to delete large messages.
Have limited the maximum Send & Receive size to 25MB, was unlimited earlier and the users have some really large old messages. 25MB maximum size limit configured on all connectors. Everything works well, except that users now can’t delete old messages larger than 25MB! Error message: "Some items cannot be deleted. They were either moved or already deleted, or access was denied". Neither delete, shift+delete or even the Admin can delete this messages larger than 25MB! This problem started after that the : Organization Configuration -> Hub Transport -> Global Settings -> Send and Receive Maximum size was set to 25MB. When I raise these levels to 50MB, it's possible to delete messages up to 50MB. Is this expected behavior? Exchange 2010 Sp1 - 1 CAS/HUB & 1 Mailbox server.

I've been in this situations before and each time I tried the following 1. Log on via OWA and delete it from there. 2. go to the mail queue and look for the email with the larger message and delete from there via Windows Explorer

Alternatively, you can go here to delete big attachment mails from system.. http://www.intelliadmin.com/index.php/2007/10/remove-an-email-from-all-mailboxes-in-microsoft-exchange/ http://www.msexchange.org/articles_tutorials/exchange-server-2010/management-administration/exporting-importing-mailboxes-exchange-server-2010.htmlAnil

Update: Just to clarify, this is not a message i any queue, it's old (>25MB) messages in users mailboxes. Messages created before we implemented Send/Receive Maximum Message size (25MB). It's not one message, it's maybe 1000+ after many year's unlimited usage. Not possible to delete messages by Outlook or OWA, just the same error message. Admin could not delete his own or others messages who is larger than 25MB in his own or other's mailboxes. And we want to keep the Send/Receive Maximum message size to 25MB by now. Bug?

How old is the message? Exchange should drop it after 5 days.

Hi Nohandyman, First of all, I would suggest that you could update your exchange and outlook to the latest version. Then, if the issue still exists, I would do as below to make some tests. 1. use the isinteg to fix the database, and then make a test 2. move the issue mailbox to other database to make a test 3. enable the mailbox audit, and change the diagnosic logging level to confirm the the issue 4. workaround :export it as pst file and then remove it, and then import it to mailbox Regards! Update: There is no corruption, no need to move and so one... Problem reproduced in lab. Very easy to reproduce: (Exchange 2010 Sp1) 1. Logon to OWA. 2. Create a mail with a large attachment >20MB, send it to yourself. 3. Set the Organization Configuration -> Hub Transport -> Global Settings -> Send and Receive Maximum size to 15MB. 4. Make sure that the new settings are active now, can take some time. Logoff and logon OWA just to be sure. Try to attach a new mail with 20MB file. Not possible when new Global settings are activated. This is right. 5. When it's not possible to attach the 20MB because of size limitation, try to delete the first (old) >20MB mail you already have in your mailbox, if you can? "Some items cannot be deleted. They were either moved or already deleted, or access was denied". Any reason for this behavior?

We have the EXACT same problem and scenario. We migrated from exchange 2007, and as part of the process decreased our maximum allowable send/receive size in global settings. Now users can't delete historical emails larger than the allowable send/receive size. Surely this can't be by design?? If you are looking for a workaround for your end users without increasing the maximum allowable send/receive size, you can have the user open the email, right click the attachment, choose "remove", and save the email. You'll then be able to delete. Annoying but feasible. Would like to hear from MS on this one. 2X exchange 2010 Sp1 RU2 mailbox/CAS with hardware load balancer.

Hi Do you update them to the latest version? Please refer below information: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;974994 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/202517 If all the above have been test, the issue still exists, it seems an issue, I would suggest that you could open a ticket from MS, if it is a issue, you will not need to charge for it. This happens under OWA as well as Outlook, so these suggestions about Outlook/Office, IMHO, are the wrong direction. I have this issue too, so I am anxious for a solution. Thanks! Jerry

This is obviously a bug in Exchange 2010. Seems the send/receive limits set on the hub transport, if decreased in size, will restrict ones ability to delete historical email larger than the new limit. It's as if the action of deleting a message somehow routs the message through the hub, and gets blocked because of the new limits. This surely can't be by design.. I'd open a ticket with MS but I've had my share of MS India for the month..

It might be a bug but have you tried removing the restriction on send/receive limit and just put send limit instead? Give that a go and see if you run into the same problem.

That wouldn't be a solution, since the main purpose is to make sure people (esp. from outside on internet) cannot put large attachments in our organization mailboxes. (receive limit)
