Unable to access SMTP 25 in sbs 2003, firewall ?
Hi, I am using sbs 2003. Setup exchange perfectly fine. Now user want to have POP ability. Instead of using the wizard, I did 1) enable the POP services 2) enable the POP under "Routing and Remote access" and under private address I have 127.0.0.1 When I telnet to 110, it is working fine. So the POP section is good. Now comes to SMTP, I am using sonicwall and I forward port 25 back to my mailserver as well, same as port 110. On the mail server, i can telnet 25 and it's fine. But the on the outside I can't access port 25back to the mail server at all.For SMTP,I just go under the "Routing andRemote access" and enable the SMTP and private address I put in the same 127.0.0.1that's allI did, for some reason, the SMTP trafficprot 25 just not coming into the server. I know I did the firewall correctly, becauseI allowed theall 3 group IMAP/POP/SMTP as a mail serverice under firewall ..anyone can shine any light on this ?thanks !

Hi there, what IP address did you telnet to? Was the exchange server IP address you tried telneting into from outside your network? If yes that wont work always and unless its configured that way. Have you tried telneting your public IP assinged on the firewall?Milind Naphade | MCTS:M | http://www.msexchangegeek.com

Under Default SMTP Virtual server go to properties and in the ip address check if it is set to actual ip or all unassigned ip Perhaps i would ask you to post this in SBS forum to get quicker response from SBS professionals. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sbs/bb676723.aspx Vinod |CCNA|MCSE 2003 +Messaging|MCTS|ITIL V3|

Solved. Thank you both for the responses, Idid have tried both method already, but I think the problem was on sonciwall, for some reason it didn't take the firewall setting in until I was able to restart the router then everything just worked :) Thanks again for all the suggestions!
