Unable to access OWA or Public Folders through legacy virtual directories on Windows Server 2008
I recently started a transition from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007. The old E2K3 system was comprised of two servers; one back-end and one front-end. I installed two new Exchange 2007 servers, running on Windows Server 2008. One MB/HT server and one CAS. We moved all mailboxes to the new E2K7 server and uninstalled the E2K3 Front-End server. All users can successfully access their mailboxes through the new E2K7 CAS server, but only through the /OWA virtual directory. Whenever they try to use /EXCHANGE or /PUBLIC (as many of them do) they get a 401 Unauthorized error after entering their credentials. This is true for all users. Is someone else experiencing this? This is my first E2K7 install running on Windows Server 2008 so I can't say if this works on W2K8 server at all. Can someone verify? I have verified that exprox.dll and davex.dll are mapped correctly in IIS on both the MB and CAS servers. A side effect of this error is that PFDAVAdmin does not work either. Thanks Morgan

Never mind, I solved it myself. The problem was that the MB/HT server were missing three IIS 7 role services; - Basic Auth - Windows Auth - ISAPI-Ext Without these the /Exchange and /Public virtual directories could not process any logon requests or user davex.dll to redirect users sessions. The strange thing is that the Exchange 2007 setup program did not report these components as missing when I installed E2K7. It reported that I needed IIS, the metabase etc, but not these three role services. Morgan
