Unable to Save Workbook

I am using the Excel Web App and I get the following error:

"Unable to Save Workbook We will try again automatically, but you should try to save your workbook to another location or click Open in Excel."

Details:

Your changes could not be saved. It is recommended that you select Open in Excel or try to save your changes to a different location immediately.  If your changes can still not be saved after a few more minutes, your session will be ended to prevent any more loss of data.

How do I resolve this issue? It's happened twice now in 5 minutes.

There's nothing in the SharePoint Logs I can see, however I did find the following on my WFE Application Log at the same time as the error - seemingly to relate to Office/Excel?

It seems that even if I wait for the changes to be saved (and the message goes away), it still doesn't save!

Can anyone assist?

I'm getting an, almost, identical issue.

At first I thought it was due to the volume of people trying to access/save the document at the same time, but users are getting the same problem even when it's just them editing.

Trying for myself (I'm a farm admin), 50% of the time I can edit the document and it'll save without issues.

This has also happened with another document in the past, but only appeared to be for 1 user.

Did you ever resolve this issue? I'm getting the same issue using Excel Web Apps in SkyDrive. Very frustrating.

Here's my post: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/webapps-excel/error-unable-to-save-workbook/db26d544-aa5f-4b9a-972d-74e7f21b5438

I am having the same issue. I tried three different browsers, deleted and re-uploaded the file, and have been searching for alternative services. Any answers greatly appreciated.

I was just on the phone with Microsoft tech support for almost 2 hours trying to figure this out.

The (6th!) tech person was saying that for some reason there is an issue with files saving that have special characters in the file name (like &*# -, etc). She had me rename my file name to exclude all of those characters under save as in the web app.

Maybe that will work for someone.

For me, the problem is persisting, and it doesn't seem like anyone at Microsoft knows anything about it. If Microsoft figures out how to fix this, please let us know.

For now, I am seeking alternative services.

Hi All

Have you got the solution?

I suddenly
have this issue the workbook could be edited but it could be saved either
through Open in Excel and Edit in Browser. You can see what you modified data
in the worksheet if you open the worksheet again in Edit in Browser. Seems the
system had the problem save the data back to SharePoint.

Regards,

Tony
