Unable to Install Outlook 2003 on Exchange Server 2007
I want to use the Outlook 03 client on my Exchange 07 server. It installs without error. However when I try to run it the Wizard starts up and begins the first task of "Configuring Outlook Accounts" at that point I am presented with a dialog for connection
credentials. It says it is Connecting to mail.<my domain>. No matter what credentials I enter (including the Administrators credentials) it will not except them. It continues to ask for logon credentials until I give up and hit cancel on the credentials
dialog at which point the Wizard exits with no progress. This is a very perplexing problem.
Any suggestions would be welcome.
Thanks

That isn't a supported combination.
If you want to install Outlook on to the same server as Exchange it must be Outlook 2007 or higher.

See if this registry key exists on the server:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Exchange\Exchange Provider
If it does, is there a Rpc_Binding_Order value? If so, change the
contents so only ncacn_ip_tcp remains.
IIRC (from many years ago) it's the ncalrpc provider that's the
problem. You don't need it, or anything other than ncacn_ip_tcp.

"Not supported" doesn't mean they won't work.
According to this, OL2003 and E2K7 will work:

Hi Jerry,
Agree with Rich,
It may work but can not promise. If convenient please install OL 2007 instead of 2003.
Best Regards!

I tried Rich's suggestion of modifying the registry - no joy - same problem.
Also in reply to another person - yes I did enter the credentials correctly (many times).
The consensus seems to point to trying the 2007 version. Since that is not available to me I'll be trying the 2010 version of Outlook once it is purchased.
Thanks to all for suggestions,
Jerry

Oh, well. There's nothing like empirical testing to discover the
truth. :-)
It's been many, many years since I've had to install Outlook on an
Exchange server.
