Unable to Exmerge...why?
I have a bunch of old mailboxes in Exchange 2003. Tried to use exmerge to save the mailboxes to PSTs and it gave me errors. Most of the names for these mailboxes are disabled or no longer exist in active Directory. Here is the error. ExMerge requires the associated AD account to be enabled and intact in order to get the data out of the database.Have you followed the instructions on setting up a proper account with the required rights? If you dont already have a service account I would recommend configuring a new user and then follow the instructions in this link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/292509Troy Werelius www.Lucid8.com Search, Recover, & Extract Mailboxes, Folders, & Email Items from Offline EDB's and Live Exchange Servers with Lucid8's DigiScope

Yes I already have the service account used to run Exmerge. So does this mean I cannot back up any mailbox without the original login account?

Lucid8 makes an ExMerge alternative called DigiScope http://www.lucid8.com/product/digiscope.asp that you may want to check out since it is more powerful, can open Offline and Online Exchange 2010, 2007, 2003, 2000 or 5.5 Information Stores (EDBs). You can then Browse, Search, Export to PST, MSG or XML OR recover directly to a live Exchange server.Troy Werelius www.Lucid8.com Search, Recover, & Extract Mailboxes, Folders, & Email Items from Offline EDB's and Live Exchange Servers with Lucid8's DigiScope

I cannot afford this tool, and the user does still exist in Active Directory. Any other suggestions?

So how is it that you came about having the user still in AD, but the mailbox disconnected and how long ago did this happen?Troy Werelius www.Lucid8.com Search, Recover, & Extract Mailboxes, Folders, & Email Items from Offline EDB's and Live Exchange Servers with Lucid8's DigiScope

This particular user is still in AD, just disabled. User has left the company for months already. I know I can simply reactivate the user and create the PST from the Outlook account but there are other users which have no corresponding accounts in AD.

You could checkout the mailbox recovery center and reconnect the mailboxes in question for export http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa996202%28v=exchg.65%29.aspxTroy Werelius www.Lucid8.com Search, Recover, & Extract Mailboxes, Folders, & Email Items from Offline EDB's and Live Exchange Servers with Lucid8's DigiScope
