Unable to Download outlook address book
Hi, I have Exchange 2007 and clients are using outlook 2010. When i update User Attribute in AD it reflects in OWA but i am unbale to view that change in Outlook client. When i try to download Address book in outlook it gives me message OFFLINE ADDRESS BOOK CONNECTING OT MS EXCHANGE.............but there is no activity and bar is not showing progress. Event Viewer on Exchange 2k7 showing some events of ID 9325 OALGen will skip user entry 'testUser' in address list '\All Users' because the SMTP address '' is invalid. - Default Offline Address Book THere are 5-6 user names like testUser who are generating this event continously. Other 2 threads with same Topic are not working for me. Please Helpl.

Are they mail-enabled objects? Do they have a correct formated smtp address? If not, then that's why you get this error and you can ignore it Jonas Andersson MCTS: Microsoft Exchange Server 2007/2010 | MCITP: EMA 2007/2010 | MCSE/MCSA Blog: http://www.testlabs.se/blog

Hi Use ADSIEdit, find the user objects and check the attribute "showInAddressBook". For AD user objects without a mailbox this attribute should be empty. Regards Pano Boschung

Attribute showInAddressBook is populated. Yes they have AD account but no mailbox. Should i remove showInAddressBook attribute of those users? Will that impact on their login or another other thing?

Correct. If a user object isn't mailbox enabled, but has an entry in "showInAddressBook", you will get the Event ID 9325, which means "OALGen will skip user entry ...." In this case all the other OAL entries should be updated correctly. So you use cache mode. If you can see the updated user attributes using OWA or by disabling cache mode, you have a problem by downloading the OAB. Try to delete the existing *.oab files, and download the OAB again. The OAB file is used by Outlook clients only when in cached mode. If you turn off cached mode, does the problem go away? If so, then you can be sure that you have a problem with the OAB. Clients can get the OAB from either public folders or through web distribution (Outlook 2007 and later only). Following is a good article on the process of publishing the OAB through web distribution. http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2006/10/16/429204.aspx Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."

If you disable the cache mode, you don't need to download the OAB. In this case when you open your addressbook, you have a direct access to the Global Addresslist, and there you should see all changes in realtime.

So if you are able to see changed attributes when cache mode is enabled, everything should be fine. When you download the oab, how long does the process hang? Do you cancel it?

The OAB you only need if outlook cache mode is enabled. In this case you access the oab on your local machine which you need to download regularly to have an updated version of the global address list. If cache mode isn't enabled you access the global addresslist on the server. However, you are still able to do a manual download of the oab. Please take a look at this usefull link about OAB: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/841273 Regards PanoPano Boschung, PageUp AG

I got the purpose, it is for the time when i dont have connectivity and i can search my address list even while in offline mode.
