Unable to Backup Exchange Storage Groups using Backup Exec 2010
Hello,
We're running Exchange Server 2007 version 8.2.0176.002 on a Sever 2003 x64 SP2 system. We're trying to do a back up of the exchange storage groups using Backup Exec 2010 version 13.0 (With AOFO disabled); however, we're receiving
an error "Snapshot provider error (0xE000FED1): A failure occurred querying the Writer status."
We contacted Symantec and they provided us with this hotfix
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940349 yet the problem still occurred.
Under VSSAdmin List Writers, we are receiving an error in the Microsoft Exchange Writer:

You need to reboot server (passive node, if taking backup from there) to bring exchange writer in working status then start backuo

Hi Anil,
We've already tried a reboot a few days ago. The problem happened again after a few backup jobs.
If I were to apply the update you provided, how can I tell which service pack is already installed on our Exchange server?
Thanks,
Daniel

Hi Daniel,
Could you please check if there are any event log on the exchange server?
I would suggest that you could update the exchange 2007 and the OS for the latest the version, Such that new kb for OS; new KB, SP, rollup for excahnge.
We could ckeck the version through EMC or the file version.
Some related issue looks like yours and solution:
1. check that whether the Circular logging enabled, please disable it
2. Disabled the IPV6 from Registry, Set the network binding order correctly,Restarted the Exchange Server

Adding one more points, As you are having Exchnage 2007 SP2 and if you go for SP3 then don't forget to install RU1 or RU2 for SP3. There is one known issue of VSS backup in Exchange 2003 SP3 and fixed by RU1.
Please let us know if still you have any issue.Anil

Thanks Everyone!
We've updated the Exchange server to SP3 and all the backups for the Exchange database is working.
We'll do the rollup if it's absolutely necessary
Best Regards,
Daniel
