URGENT: Transferring from another Exchange Server.. How!
Hello, My name is Josh. I haven't set up Exchange in a long time (the routing part at least) and I need some help. Currently, our email is hosted by another company (and they got into legal issues, and the server is about to dissapear.) We need to transfer the email hosting from his server to our own. I haven't done this in a long time and need some help just getting the basics operational. Please help me. We are both on Exchange 2007.

Hi, You can setup a two way trust between these two domain, the do a cross-domian migration between these domain, the user are less in count, create new user in your domain & user pst-export to export from old domain & import it in new one, have a look into this article : http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2006/11/02/430289.aspxRipu Daman Mina | MCSE 2003 & MCSA Messaging

Here is an article to get you started: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124907(EXCHG.80).aspx Essentially you will need to Create the AD accounts (If required) and mailboxes, apply the correct default SMTP suffixes and proxyaddresses Change DNS for external senders. The mx records will now have to point to your SMTP servers that can accept mail for you. Create the authorative domain in Exchange Ensure routing and firewall allows SMTP in and out / to and from the SMTP gateways.

I have no idea how to do much of this. Ripu, I am reading your article. We would like this transfer to be permanent though. I have complete access to both servers. A guy here says I need to do a MX change? We have two domain names. We would like to only use email from the one and keep the other for backup. Here's what i have set up. Send Connector (i set it as Internet) No FGDN yet. In Accepted Domains tab, there is our domain .com and our domain .local. Is this right? Everyone is relying on me to get this done and I am a novice with Exchange. Please help!

Hi, MX changed in needed if you want to set the same email address in new domain also, you can do that have a comman route, point the MX to new domain & make a connector between new & old domain, then you can perform a cross domain mailbox migration For mailbox moment look into these articles : http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa997145(EXCHG.80).aspx or http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2006/11/02/430289.aspx for connectors: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb123546(EXCHG.80).aspx Please let me know if more information is needed.Ripu Daman Mina | MCSE 2003 & MCSA Messaging
