Two CAS servers in Exchange 2007 environment
Hi. I have this configuration inherited from previous admin. So I'd like to clarify it. So here are two Exchange 2007 SP1 servers. First (MAIN) installed with CAS/HT/MB roles. Second (CAS-ONLY) installed with CAS role only. Both running under Windows 2003 R2. Now CAS-ONLY works well to provide access to OWA and for AutoDiscovery. "Get-ClientAccessServer" shows me two servers with CAS roles. "Get-OWAVirtualDirectory" shows me that all default virtual directories are at CAS-ONLY . No directories are present at MAIN (and in IIS manager too). "Get-ExchangeServer" at MAIN shows me server MAIN with all 3 roles installed. DefaultWebSite is stopped in IIS at MAIN. So one thing that i can't understand - what is the current state of CAS role at MAIN? Seems that - as CAS server - MAIN does nothing, but I'm not sure. Is it broken - maybe after incorrect uninstall of CAS role or after failure? Or is it "currently disabled" by some other action? So the question is - is there any way to determine the current state (broken, hold, ready for work?) of CAS role at server MAIN? Thanks for any clues.

If IIS is stopped, then the configuration isn't valid. Personally if you are on Exchange 2007 SP1, you are in a configuration that is no longer supported. I would therefore install Exchange 2007 SP3 with rollup 7. That will effectively reinstall the product and may well correct the configuration that you have. As CAS is only used for POP/IMAP and HTTP traffic in Exchange 2007 I would probably look at installing the hub transport role on to the CAS only server and then remove both Hub and CAS from the mailbox server role. Sembee, sorry but what do you mean by saying - "no longer supported"? Just Exchange version or something else?

Exchange 2007 SP1 is not a supported version. When it coems to version support I believe it is current service pack (so SP3) and the previous one. Exchange 2007 SP1 is very old and you should upgrade as soon as possible. Simon. Simon Butler, Exchange MVP Blog | Exchange Resources | In the UK? Hire Me.
