Trying to sharing client C drives over a network
I'm trying to setup 2 PC's which are attached to our network domain, so that I can map a drive to the c$ share that I have set up on them. Basically trying to connect the two PC's C drives to each other via a drive mapping. The shares seem to be set up correctly but when I try to navigate to the c$ share via My Computer or map a drive to the shares, the C drive does not appear. Share properties on each C drive look like this: Share name-C$ Comment-Default share User limit-Maximum allowed Permissions seem to be ok. I have the domain admin ID and local admin IDset up in the users list of both computers.Howeve, as mentioned when I log on to each computer using the domain admin ID and tryconnecting to the other computer's C drive it does not let me. I am not getting any error messages or anything. The C: drive just is not appearing. Anyone know a fix or remedy around this situation? thanks

This is because the last characterofthe share name youareusing is a$, which in Smb parlancedenotes a hidden share. These shares will not therefore show up in My Computer, although they still exists and you can map a drive tothemfrom a commandprompt using the syntax: net use x: \\computername\sharename Either map drives this way and avoid other users knowing the sharesexist or change the shares to unhidden by removing the trailing $ character from their names. Note that C$ is normally a default system share which, depending on policy and windows version you cannot always add/delete/amend. In XP, for example, you will need to click the New Share button on Explorer's Sharing and Security property sheetto establishan additionalnon-hiddenshare for the entire drive.
