Trouble creating new edge subscription on hub
This is a new install Exchange 2010 SP1 (upgrade of Exchange 2003). I have an Edge Transport server in the DMZ, and (2) CAS/Hub Transport/Mailbox servers at two different AD sites in the same domain that are separated across a WAN. I generated the XML file on the Edge server and copied to each of the hub servers. I ran the wizard on the first server to create the new edge subscription and all appears to have worked fine. I then proceeded to do the same to the second hub server. In the wizard I am receiving the error "Edge Subscription Failed - Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation." In the event log the only error generated is "Cmdlet failed. Cmdlet New-EdgeSubscription...". After much searching on the web, I have not yet found what might be causing this.

Hi Eric, I thought that the Edge could only be subscribed to one AD site at a time. Since you have two seperate sites this won't work. So there are two options: install another Edge and assign it to the other site; let the Hub server in the other site relay mail via the Hub server in the primary site; More information about the Edge subscription process can be found here, although it's Exchange 2007: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb310755(EXCHG.80).aspx Regards, Johan Exchange-blog: www.johanveldhuis.nl

That makes since... I was starting to think that was the answer but I had not found it stated in such simple terms. Since I am new to Exchange 2010, do I need to configure the relaying of mail between the two hub transport servers or will I need to set it up manually somewhere? We only want the single Edge server at this time. Thanks for the response!

Hi, >do I need to configure the relaying of mail between the two hub transport servers or will I need to set it up manually somewhere? Deploying more than one Hub Transport server per site provides redundancy. When you install more than one Hub Transport server in an Active Directory site, the connections are distributed. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
