Triple MSExchange ADAccess Events
I just finished installing Exchange Server 2007 Standard with SP3 on Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard with SP1. Everything seems to work fine except these 3 annoying events (shown below) that keep repeating every 15 minutes, unnecessarily filling up Application Event logs. I have 2 NICs installed but 1 of them is disabled. I have changed network card binding order according to this article. That didn't solve the problem. These 3 events sometimes stop popping up after restarting Win2k8 server. However, the triple events reappear on subsequent Win2k8 server restarts. The only guarantee to stop them from reappearing every 15 minutes is to restart MSExchangeADTopology service which in turn restarts several other services. Is there a permanent fix other than manually restarting MSExchangeADTopology service? I've often seen this error when the server isn't correctly registered in DNS. I would recommend that you run ipconfig /registerdns on the server then after about 10 minutes restart the MSExchangeADTopology service. I look forward to hearing the results.Good luck!Chris Raschke | C/D/H - www.CDH.com | Twitter: raschkec

Hi Morph, Please see this similar post, seems like this is a Known-issue. Event ID 2601, 2604, 2501 http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-IE/exchangesvrgeneral/thread/0419307d-11ee-475e-b0a5-d65995f0434a Frank Wang

Chris, I did as you said "ipconfig /registerdns" but I didn't restart MSExchangeADTopology service because, as I said in the original post, restarting that service will stop the 3 events even without issuing "ipconfig /registerdns" command. I restarted the whole Win2k8 server instead. Those 3 events are still popping up every 15 minutes. Frank, I have read that discussion and KB article at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2025528 before posting a question. I've done everything mentioned in that discussion including reghack (hard coding site name in the registry). Nothing helps. It seems like there is no fix for it other than a workaround (manual restart of MSExchangeADTopology service). That means I will have to remember to restart MSExchangeADTopology service after restarting the server or otherwise the event logs will be flooded with thousands of unnecessary events in a month. That's bad.

Hi, I have had this annoying problem before and for med, changing the startup type to "Automatic (Delayed Start) for the service MSExchangeADTopology service helped. :MartinaPlease remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.

I've done that as well but it didn't help. Thanks for the tip.

sure did. additional info: I did that trick (delayed start) several weeks ago but it didn't solve the problem. I did it again a few minutes ago (to be absolutely sure) and restarted the machine. The 3 events are still popping up every 15 minutes.
