Transferring PDC role of exchange server box to a different server
Hello, I'm not sure if I'm on the correct forum, here is the scenario I have. I'm running Windows Server x64 Standard Edition with Exchange Server 2007 installed, another server is running Windows Server 2003 R2 Edition. I need to reinstall my current exchange server box. I will be adding a temporary server to replace exchange server while I am doing reinstall on the server. Ran NETDOM /query FSMO, found out that the exchange server box is running the PDC, RID pool Manager and Infrastructure owner. Is it safe to transfer all three roles to Windows Server 2003 R2 Edition server that is on the network already? Then move all appropriate data on the temp server that I will be using for exchange.

You can move FSMO roles.

Thanks, Just want to confirm that If I do a dcpromo on my exchange, then I will break my exchange setup.

Not sure I follow you. Dcpromo to demote the domaincontroller? Install Exchange on other server, move everything. Do demotion after everything is moved from this server.
