Transfer Mail from a mailbox to another
Someone deleted a user from the AD by accident and did not delete the Exchange mailbox. I recreated the user but it did not reconnect to the old mailbox. Is there a way to transfer the old email to the new account? I can no longer log on as the deleted user so I can export the old email. There is no .pst file on the local computer for the deleted user. Please help. There is important email in the old mailbox. Thanks and Merry Christmas.

You just need to manually reconnect the new account to the old mailbox. What Exchange version are you running?

Exchange 6.5. When I try to reconnect it fails saying the object cannot be found even though it is there.

What is the exact error message you are getting?

An object (User or Other Object) with the following name can not be found: "mackej" Check the selected object types and locations for accuracy and ensure that you have typed the object name correctly, or remove this object from the selection.

Is that the user name of the new account? Can you browse for the new account, and select it from there?

There is no browse option, just the box to type in the name then Check name

I'm afraid I don't have any 2003 servers left to test on. It sounds like either the new account name doesn't match what you're typing in, or the new account hasn't replicated to the DC the Exchange server is using.

When you recreated the account, make sure you didn't create a new mailbox for it. There needs to be no mailbox associated with the account in order to connect it to disconnected mailbox.
