Track changes doesn't continue when I close a document

Hi

I am tracking changes in a word document (Office 2013). When I close the document then open it and change text that I had inserted and tracked in my last session, it shows the change as mark-up on mark-up. For example, if I write the words 'Hello Microsoft' in track change mode, close the document, then open the document and delete the word 'Microsoft', it will show the deletion as red strikethrough rather than just removing the Word Microsoft.

The user name is exactly the same in both sessions. I have also gone into 'Word Options' and ensured that the 'Always use these values regardless of sign in to Office' box is checked.

This is really frustrating because I work on long documents over many days and need to be able to make and edits in a continous track session.

Help would be appreciated!

Tracked Changes doesn't work the way you have described you'd like it to. Tracked changes are session specific so when you close out of the document and restart editing the next day, that is a new editing session and thus you get the behavior you are seeing.

Based on your description of what you'd like to happen, you might consider investigating the features and functioning of Document Compare, it's on the Review tab as well. To use it for what I think you are looking for, you'd keep an original copy of the document before you started your editing and then compare that original document to the version you now have after completing all of your edits.

Check it out... it might be the solution you are looking for.

Hope this helps

Rich has answered your question as well as can be done. This has always been the way Track Changes works.
