Track Moved Mailbox For A Restore
Hi All,
We have 16 databases and require too complete a restore for one user but it would appear that this user has been moved from the database they are currently in.
Is there a way to track what was the previous mailbox database the user was in from a year ago?

With 2010 the move mailbox history gets logged but only the last 2 by default and mailbox also contains movemailboxhistory folder which is accessible by mfcmapi. For 2003\2007 there is nothing logged. You can check to see if you've saved any mailbox
move logs. If there is nothing than may have to resort to just going through all the tapes, or buy third party EDB recovery software that can enumerate the mailbox list directly on the tapes which will save you time from performing the restore only
to find out the mailbox wasn't there. I routinely do ldifde dumps once a month so historical info like original mailbox info, DL memberships etc are quickly available. Doesn't help now, but something you can look into for the future.

Thanks James. I'm going to setup the monthly ldf dumps to capture this info. But somehow I wish I had have completed this before the move to 2010. Also found the following a tad easier than using MFCMapi.
Get-Mailbox User | Get-MailboxStatistics -IncludeMoveHistory |fl
MoveHistory : {(22/06/2012 1:27:56 PM: TargetMDB=DB1, Size=328.3 MB (344,219,438 bytes), Du
ration=00:08:40), (20/02/2012 10:51:49 AM: Canceled, TargetMDB=DB2)}

Hi
If the ad account is still there, first please check Disconnected Mailbox in EMC, to see whether the mailbox is there.
If yes, reconnecte it.
If not, you can run Clean-MailboxDatabase cmdlet to check each database.
The command is to scan Active Directory for disconnected mailboxes that aren't yet marked as disconnected in the Microsoft Exchange store and update the status of those mailboxes in the Exchange store.
For how to run this command, please have a check on

Thanks Zi I'm not sure you have understood the question. User and mailbox already exist restore of the mailbox required for an audit requirement.
I think james has already addressed it.
Thanks
