Total size of mailbox showed in EMC is different from the total size from Outlook client 2007, e.g. 87605KB is showed in EMC, but 97899KB is showed in Outlook client. Any idea??

Hi,It is normal to see the slight difference of mailbox size when viewed in Exchange System Manager and Outlook. This is because Exchange System Manager will show the size of all message items. Outlook will show regular emails in the mailbox and some personal rule as well. So if we just see a slight difference, this is normal and expected.Within a mailbox, many hidden items exist. Some of these items include third-party hidden folders, rules, and items used to support the functionality included with an Exchange mailbox. These hidden items are sometimes referred to as NON_IPM_DATA. Exchange System Manager considers all related mailbox data, including NON_IPM_DATA when calculating the size of a mailbox. Besides, please disable Home page from outlook for the user and then check the size again. Note: Inbox->properties->Home page Moreover, if the size on outlook is much smaller/bigger than ESM, then I recommend you to try to move the mailbox to other database and then test the issue again. Thanks for your reply. But the size in EMC < the size in outlook client, so I am confused......I will move the mailbox to other database and have a test.

Thanks!! It worked. The mailbox size is kept close after the move.

I'm also having a big prblem with mailbox size. please see this post. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchangesvrclients/thread/72e69a44-e485-4aee-807f-861b91ff9a9f I've tried moving the mailbox to another database and doing an offline defrag. The mailbox size is still 2.5GB as shown in EMC and OWA. However, Get-MailboxFolderStatistics UserName |fl and Outlook still only show about 45MB. I asked an engineer while i had another case open. He asked around and was only able to point me to this thred.Breck

Well, a defrag isn't going to do anything for the mailbox. You want to use "isinteg" to clean things up (if this is Exchange 2007). isinteg -fix -test:alltests >The mailbox size is still 2.5GB as shown in EMC and OWA. However, Get-MailboxFolderStatistics UserName |fl and Outlook still only show about 45MB. What about this? Get-MailboxStatistics <mbxname> | select displayname,@{n="Size (KB)";e={$_.totalitemsize.value.tokb()}} | ft -auto > >I asked an engineer while i had another case open. Still no change difference. It doesn't appear to have changed anything. How can you tell what was "fixed" all I get in the log is a "Cmdlet suceeded". I first ran the DetectOnly switch, but it didn't return any values.Breck

No sir. This is one mailbox out of 245 that was moved from Exchange 2003 to 2010 and is the only one exhibiting this behavior. The issue existed in 2003 also. I was hoping that the migration to Exchange 2010 might fix it.Breck

When you look at the output from get-mailboxfolderstatistics and match it to the size of the folders see from Outlook, which of them has a marked discrepency in the folder size? --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP

Hello Rich, None of them has a real marked discrepancy. Following is a breakdown in KB as shown from Get-MailboxFolderStatistics, Outlook Server, Outlook Local Outlook Exchg Server Local Calendar 588 589 1,129 Contacts 138 138 399 Inbox 28737 28064 31005 Deleted 29 29 23 Junk 1161 1134 1151 Sent 25467 24873 25294 Get-MailboxStatistics = 2607773Breck

Get-MailboxFolderStatistics <mbxname> | where {$_.folderpath -eq "/"} What are the values in ItemsInFolder and FolderSize? If they're larger than zero try this: In Outlook, select the root of the mailbox and right-click it. Select "Properties" and then select the "Home Page" tab. Uncheck the "Show home page . . ." box and click OK. Turning off the "Outlook Today" web stuff sometimes uncovers an amazing amount of "lost" e-mail. --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP

I ran the command but it didn't return anything. I reran just Get-MailboxFolderStatistics <mbxname> and it reports ItemsInFolder 0, FolderSize 0 B I also verified that "Show home page . . ." is unchecked and "Outlook Today" web stuff is turned off. I'm really baffled. Breck Warner, MCSE +Security, CISSP--- Breck
