To defrag or not to defrag ?
Hello,I am running Exchange 2003 SP1 and have noticed some information event logs in the application section of event viewer. Event 1221 states (source is MSExchangeIS Public Store):The database "First Storage Group\Public Folder Store (SERVER)" has 1 megabytes of free space after online defragmentation has terminated. When I check my C:\ drive (where Exchange and the databases are located) I see I have 25GB of free space. Do I don't understand why Exchange is reporting it has only 1MB of free space. I have noticed no slow down of the Exchange server and all email is working fine. There are only 5-10 users working at any one time.So My question is do I need to do an offline defrag using EsEutil or shall I just ignore this information entry in the event log as I have enough had disk space?Your opinions would be appreciated.ThanksSarwar1

This event says that you have 1 MB free space inside the database file it has nothing to do with you diskspace. Exchange will expand the database file when needed. You can add 1 MB of data until Exchange needs to increase the database file. If you do an offline defrag you would only shrink the database file with approx 1MB. I would not do anything if I were you

Hello, In my company we are running exchange server 2000 and at event viewer i am receiving event 1221, that at the public folder database we have only one megabyte of free space after defragmentation, and at the same time all the users are being locked out. And each time the defragmentation is performed the users are being locked out. I would appreciate some help, Thank you in advance Anila
