Tie single AD account to multiple email aliases
Good Day: I have two accepted domains on a single Exg Server 2007 std. Due to business requirements, I need to have a single Exchg acct have the ability to receive mail from two email account and know which account the message arrived in. Also, the requirement is that the end user can send a response from the alias that received the message. That is joe@domainA.com and joe@domainB.com should both be able to send and receive mail from Exchange. Any help would be much appreciated. Jesse

The additional aliases for inbound is easy enough - just add them. However to send as the accounts, that isn't possible with a single account. You have two main options without making significant changes to Exchange. 1. Additional account. This would be a regular account, the main account would have Send As permissions on the additional account. The user would need to select the additional account in the from field to reply as it. An alternative would be to have email delivered to the additional account and open it in Outlook. If reply is selected in the additional account, the from field would be populated automatically. 2. A third party application called Choose From, from ivasoft.biz. A third option would be to use dummy POP3/SMTP accounts. However I am not a fan of that method personally. Simon, thanks for the quick reply. I will look at the 3rd party solution. Followup questions: 1) What are the signification changes to Exchange? 2) Is that functionality available in 2010? Thanks, Jesse

The word significant is probably a bit strong. You have to allow POP3/SMTP clients to operate on your network. Personally I don't allow that. Nothing has changed in Exchange 2010, and I wouldn't expect it to change in future versions. This is not a common request. Simon.Simon Butler, Exchange MVP Blog | Exchange Resources
