The value of attribute msExchCurrentServerRoles is showing something different....
Hi, We are using the attribute "msExchCurrentServerRoles" to determine the role installed on the server. For the previous versions of Exchange Server it works fine as given in the link below: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb123496(EXCHG.80).aspx But for Exchange Server 2013 we found the values for this attribute get changed. The mentioned values are not working. In Exchange Server 2013 the mailbox role also include HUB and UM. We checked in our enviornment the different values for attribute "msExchCurrentServerRoles" is as below: 1) For Mailbox ( + HUB + UM ) role: value of attribute "msExchCurrentServerRoles" is 54. 2) For CAS role only: value of attribute "msExchCurrentServerRoles" is 16385. 3) For Mailbox ( + HUB + UM ) + CAS role: value of attribute "msExchCurrentServerRoles" is 16439. How do we interpreat these values to decide which roles ( or role combinations) installed on server?? Please reply. Thanks in advance, Amol Suryawanshi amol suryawanshi

Hello Amol, I have the same values in my test environment. It can be understandable for the Exchange 2013 MBX role since it integrated services like MBX+CAS+UM+HUB, so it should be 2+4+16+32=54. Thanks,Simon Wu TechNet Community Support

Thanks for reply. I installed only Mailbox Role in one enviornment and the value for "msExchCurrentServerRoles" attribute is 54. In second enviornment i installed only CAS role and the value for "msExchCurrentServerRoles" attribute is 16385. In third enviornment i installed both MBX + CAS role and the value for "msExchCurrentServerRoles" attribute is 16439. I am now confused with these different values in different enviornment. From these values how i conclude which roles are installed on respective enviornment. Thanks, Amol Suryawanshi amol suryawanshi

Hi Amol, Thanks for the confirmation. In Exchange 2013, there are only two roles, MBX and CAS. The concept of Server Roles in Exchange 2013 are quite different than the ones in the previous Exchange versions. I am not sure whether the number will be changed in the future. Temporarily, we can consider: Exchange 2013 CAS role number is: 16385 Exchange 2013 MBX role number is: 54 Thanks,Simon Wu TechNet Community Support
