The provider 'Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0' is not registered for PowerPivot workbook in SharePoint.

Hi,

I have a PowerPivot workbook stored in a SharePoint doclib (PowerPivot Gallery) that is using a .csv file also located in the same doclib. When I try to perform a data refresh on the workbook I get the following error in the ULS logs of the application server where Excel Services is running:

Failed to create an external connection or execute a query. Provider message: Out of line object 'DataSource', referring to ID(s) '87e99b02-72f2-450f-b575-3b926cae9b58', has been specified but has not been used. The following system error occurred: Class not registered The provider 'Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0' is not registered. , ConnectionName: ThisWorkbookDataModel, Workbook: Equity Index csv test.xlsx.

This is a SharePoint 2013 farm running on Windows Server 2012 with SQL Server 2012.

I have tried installing the Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 Redistributable (x64) and the 2007 Office System Driver: Data Connectivity Components on both the Application server and Web Front End server.

I have also registered Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0 and Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.14.0 as Trusted Data Providers in Excel Services. I have added my site collection as a UNC path in the trusted file locations as well as a standard SharePoint Foundation Locations.

I have also enabled Desktop Experience on both servers.

What ever I try to, do I am getting the same errors.

Do you guys have any additional help or advice to get this provider registered? This is really puzzling me now :)

Thanks in advance,

James

Hi,

Based on my research, this issue is related to the `unattended system account" not having read permissions over the data source. Check to see whether the permission is added.

Microsoft define it as "A single shared user account that is used to access all data sources. This is a low privileged domain account stored in the Secure Store Service. In establishing your unattended service account - first determine if this account has the proper access to the data sources that will be required in the Dashboard."

Its important to remember that since you have a single unattended account, each of the data sources used in your PowerPoint must have the same account as read access.

Hi, thanks for your response.

I have confirmed that my Unattended account specified in the secure store target application has been granted Read rights on the site collection.

Unfortunately I am still getting the error stating the "The provider 'Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0' is not registered".

I have this same problem. I've tried installing the Access Database redistributables from 2007, 2010, and 2013 with no luck.

Did you ever find a solution?

HI Shadowsteel,

We raised this issue with Microsoft and unfortunately they have stated its not supported to store the .csv files in SharePoint, they should be stored in a file share and accessed from there.

I did the same things as you, installing those Access Database redistributables, but I couldn't get it to work. We even got the ticket it as far as the product groups but no luck.

Not sure why, but it was never built with this in mind :(

Thanks,

James.

Sounds like they're taking the easy way out. Did you ever try placing the CSV on a file share? I'm getting the same error from a text file on a file share.

James:

I experienced the same problem in SP2010 we were able to resolve using the desktop experience and redistributable. We recently migrated to SP2013 and the problem has surfaced again. Did you ever get resolution to the problem in SP2013?

Thanks,

Mike
