The operation can't be performed on the default e-mail address policy
Hi, trying to edit the default EAP in Exchange 2010 but am getting the above error both in the console and the shell. I've seen a lot of posts about this but nothing in the way of a solution, can anyone help? Please don't post telling me to create a new EAP as that's not what I want. I want to solve the problem and edit the default EAP, not simply bypass the issue. Thanks.Toby

is this server recently migrated from legacy Exchange Server? check below url:- http://telnetport25.wordpress.com/2008/03/30/quick-tip-upgrading-the-default-email-address-policy/ Thanks Amit Rawat

Hi, Yes it was transitioned from an Exchange 2003 server which has now been decomissioned. As part of this transition the policy was updated as per the linked article so that's not the problem. Indeed I can edit the policy (albeit failing when I try to apply the changes) in the console, and don't receive the error shown in that article when I initiate the edit. Attempting to re-run the "Set-EmailAddressPolicy "Default Policy" -IncludedRecipients "AllRecipients"" command produces the exact same error as in the subject of this thread, with the same FullyQualifiedErrorId of 78719DD3.Toby

Hi, Do u see any domain in the EnabledEmailAddressTemplates which is not listed in your exchange server as Accepted Domain? you can check EnabledEmailAddressTemplates using following command: get-EmailAddressPolicy "Default Policy" |FL EnabledEmailAddressTemplates Regards,Laeeq Qazi|Team Lead(Exchange + Sharepoint + BES + DynamicsCRM) www.HostingController.com

Hi, Plz also have a look into this solution if u already have not tried it: http://blog.v1corp.com/2010/02/09/exchange-2010-cannot-edit-default-e-mail-address-policy/ Seems a problem with -name parameter in the command which EMC is running internally. Hi, No, the domains listed in EnabledEmailAddressTemplates are all in my Accepted Domains list. Removing the -Name parameter as detailed in that article has no effect - I get exactly the same error.Toby

Ok. Have u also looked at the solution provided in comments section of link provided by me? which suggests to only use "Identity" and "EnabledEmailAddressTemplates " attributes with the command. set-EmailAddressPolicy -EnabledEmailAddressTemplates -Identity regards, Laeeq Qazi|Team Lead(Exchange + Sharepoint + BES + DynamicsCRM) www.HostingController.com

Hi, Aha, no I hadn't tried that - just did so and it appears to have worked - thanks very much for that. I'm now getting a few errors when applying the EAP, regarding failure to apply it to some invalid objects such as "OAB Version 2/3/4" and "Offline Address Book" which I believe are to do with some legacy rubbish left over from Exchange 2003 but that's a separate issue.Toby

Hi, Glad that u resolved ur issue with my help, u r welcome. OAB generation problem do occur if your objects from ex03 server have some invalid attributes ( according to ex07/10) like they dont like spaces in Aliases etc. Regards,Laeeq Qazi|Team Lead(Exchange + Sharepoint + BES + DynamicsCRM) www.HostingController.com
