The list of permanently deleted items is empty when trying to use Recover Deleted Items.
I have a user that tried to recover an item after emptying his Deleted Items folder. He highlighted the Deleted Items folder and picked Recover Deleted Items from the tools menu. The list of available items was empty. I tested on a couple of other users and they have no problems with doing this. He is using Outlook 2007 and the Exchange server is 2007.We Recently moved all the mailboxes over from Exchange 2003. I'm not sure where to even start with this. I don't want to have to delete his mailbox and start over. Does anyone have any ideas?

In previous version of exchange, when a mailbox is moved, the retained Deleted Items cannot be moved so I think same rule applies when you move mailbox to Exchange 2007 and you cannot see it after movement. Deleted Items are not moved after you use the Move Mailbox function

Thats right that deleted item wouldn't move to another server, but we still need to consider when user deleted those items, is it really just before the movement or after? Because you said:"tested on a couple of other users and they have no problems with doing this" It may help if you can provide more info about issue, like is it possible that user deleted items by OWA? Or he hard-deleted items (+shift)

The problem has been since the move to 2007 from inside Outlook. He occasionally empties the deleted items. These items have been available to him for a week after the empty. Now they are not. They are for me and others, though. He does not hard delete...he didn't even know he could do that. He doesn't use the OWA.

Please test if user's "recovery deleted items" function were still not working on a brand-new test pc, set up user's accounttodelete some mails and wait for update, then check. If there's no similar symptom among others, and the testing above also shows that msg can't be recovered, the issue maybe almost likelythat user's mailbox has been corruptedon migration.

I have this problem too. Its only one user affected. The user doesnot have items listed under the recover deleted items. Even if you hard delete any item, they just disappear. What did I miss. I have tried hard deleting under OWA. No joy. New PC no joy. On my account I can see the items I hard deleted. I open his inbox there are no items.
