The administration limit on the server was exceeded.
Dear All,I am having a problem while creatingMailbox using exchange management console. The scenario is as follows1. Exchange management console is installed on the Windows 20032. This Server is also a Citrix server and Exchange Management is also published on Citrix Server that means all delegated users can openExchange Management Console through Citrix as well3. There are more then 20 support guys and administrators connect to that server conccurently some times all of them4. This server is also a terminal server so that users can connect directlyThe problem is weather delegated user open Exchange Management Shell via terminal services or via citrix when ever they want to create any mailbox they recieve following error:test0000 testFailed Error:Cannot find any usable connections to an Active Directory server SG1PEADD001.logistics.intra. The administration limit on the server was exceeded.I have googled but no vein i found one article of microsoft in which user action was that please close any open program and perform operation again. But the thing is that their is no open program running except Active directory users and computers.Note: from the affected users i have tried many times to createmailboxes some times the user is able to create themailbox and some time it gets the same error. Please helpRegards,SKHATRI

Hi,First please try to check the administration limit on that server.Specify a maximum number of sessions that can connect to the serverhttp://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc784146(WS.10).aspxPlease try to run ExBPA from the remote Server and then check if we have error on DC communications.Regards,Xiu

hi,it is not related to the terminal services or terminal issue. This issue is i think with the administration connection, is there any option available on which i can see that how many administration connection we can made to exchange server. May be the administration connection is out of limit thats why we can not do any thing, is there any way to reset all of the Idle virtual connections from ADand exchange. Remeber i am not talking about terminal connection i am talking about virtual connection which are being made when we try to query from the server where Admin Pak or exchange console is installed to the Exchange or AD servers.Regards,KhatriSKHATRI

Hi, As my understanding, you are using EMC remotely (not using terminal service to connect Exchange Server) administrates Exchange Server, is that true? I think EMC is a MMC based management console. So far, we do not have any official document which record the connection limitation on that. But base on my experience, making several connections together to the Exchange Server in the same time may cause performance issue. We do not recommend to make so many connections at one time. Besides, I have tried to capture a netmon trace and find that it will try to use LDAP 389 to connect to DC, use LDAP 3289 to Microsoft Global Catalog and use TCP 135 port to Exchange Server. For this issue, I recommend you to capture the netmon trace and then check where the connection has been dropped. Also you can save the trace log and then send to me. Note: Please try to stop all the other applications and then start netmon3.3. After that, please try to launch Exchange Management Tools. Once the Exchange management console start, we can browse to the Server configuration, please stop netmon. Hi,I appreciate your efforts i will run the netmon and will let you know the output, one more thing i want to ask is that may be this is because of MaxUserPort registry key which is by default 5000. i have run netstat -a and i saw many wait and closed connections on the output. is it possible that this might be the cause of the problem. Please reply as soon as possible. Please have a look in to KB article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/319504i know the error which is documented is not related but i just want to make sure.Regards,KhatriSKHATRI

Hi, The MaxUserPort value specifies the highest port number that TCP can assign when an application requests an available user port from the system. Typically, ephemeral ports are allocated port number 1024 through port number 5000. Please check the closed session and try to find the used port to see if it is greater than 5000 when you run netstat a. For this issue, I am not very sure if it is the root cause. Base on http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa995661.aspx we recommend you to change the value to 6000 and then check the issue again. Regards, Xiu

Hi,Where do i have to extend the ephermal port size on the Exchange Server it self or on the server where Exchange Manamgent console is installed. Second thing is that i went to the registry key and i could not find the key named MaxUserPort on both server, i.e. the exchange server and the server where Console is installed.I have many servers of Exchange with separated roles so do i have to change on all of the servers or is their any specific server where i have to change.Regards,SKHATRI
