The System Attendant homeMDB attribute is missing
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd535374.aspx Following the instructions from above link, I have changed the homeMDB attribute to the current database DN but still the new SA mailbox is not getting created, I have restarted the SA service and the server itself but nothing helped. This server have standard edition so there is no option to create new mailbox store. Please advise on how to recreate the SA mailbox.

You need to double check if the DN of Database is correctly pasted on the SA mailbox. before you need to paste the value click on clear button and then paste the sameVinod |CCNA|MCSE 2003 +Messaging|MCTS|ITIL V3|

Hi, The homeMDB attribute represents the distinguished name (also known as DN) of the Exchange database that hosts the System Attendant mailbox. If this value is missing, the System Attendant mailbox is unavailable. Please copy value for DistinguishedName of Mailbox Store and then past it to value for homeMDB of “Microsoft System Attendant”. If the problem still persists, then I recommend you check event viewer and then post the error event here. Besides, I’d like to know if there’s any other error in the ExBPA report. Please post here. Hi,Please try to follow the steps below to solve the problem. 1. Launch Adsiedit2. Navigate to Configuration/Services/Microsoft Exchange/Organization Name\Exchange Administrative Groups\Servers\ServerName\CN=Microsoft System Attendant3. Right click and view properties4. Scroll down to homeMDB attribute5. If the homeMDB attribute is not populated, locate and add the Distinguished Name (DN) for the First Storage Group\Mailbox Database.6. If the homeMDB attribute is populated, then create another Mailbox Database in the Storage Group. This will recreate the Microsoft System Attendant mailbox.7. In the Exchange Management Console, navigate to the Server Configuration \ Mailbox object8. Highlight the Storage Group that you want to create the new Database9. In the Action pane, select New Mailbox Database10. Create the new mailbox database and mount the database11. Dismount the newly database12. In AdsiEdit, navigate to Configuration\Services\Microsoft Exchange\Organization Name\Exchange Administrative Groups\Servers\ServerName\Information Store\CN=<StorageGroupofNewDatabase>\<DatabaseName>13. Right click and view properties14. Scroll down to distinguishName attribute15. Copy the distinguishName value and click OK16. Navigate to Configuration/Services/Microsoft Exchange/Organization Name\Exchange Administrative Groups\Servers\ServerName\CN=Microsoft System Attendant17. Right click and view properties18. Scroll down to homeMDB attribute19. Paste the DN from step 15 into the homeMDB attribute20. Click OK and close Adsiedit21. Mount the newly created mailbox database from step 1022. Launch the application log and check for Event id 1022 and 120523. If the errors are still being logged, wait for AD replication 24. Stop / restart the Information Store to clear the cache.Regards, Xiu

We have Exchange 2003 server SP2 (Standard) hence will not be able to create additional Mailbox Store. The homeMDB attribute of CN=Microsoft System Attendant is populated with DN of the existing database. I have double checked the DN and confirmed it is correct. I have repeated the steps > copying the DN from the Mailbox store object and pasting to the homeMDB attribute of CN=Microsoft System Attendant and then restarting the SA service in server (Even tried rebooting the server) but the SA mailbox is not getting created. Any Idea what is going wrong?

Login to the server using MFCMAPI and see if you see the system attendant mailbox there.steps below:1. Create a profile for administrator on a machine which has mfcmapi.2. Open mfcmapi and select - Session- Logon (does not display stores).3. This will show you all mailboxes for that server.4. See if you find the System attendant mailbox there.5. If you do, check to see properties of that (paste it here) for hidden etc.If you do not see it there as well, most likely it has been deleted and OLM has also removed it. the options you would have at that time is either restore an old backup to RSG and put the SA mailbox back or drop and recreate the store and it should bring back the SA mailbox.
October 15th, 2009 10:25am

When I use MFCMAPI, I am not able to see the SA mailbox. I tried to create the SA mailbox by mounting blank database. I have moved the DB filed from original location to another folder and mounted a blank store. Restarted SA service. Now the SA mailbox got created. After this I have replaced the blank database with original database and mounted the store. Again the SA mailbox disappeared. Please let me know your thoughts. If no other option then I am planning to mount the blank Database in original store and mount the original database file to RSG and then merge the data but it will take a lot of time because the DB size is around 55 GB.

can you try this:1. mount blank store to create SA mailbox. make sure you are able to login to your mailbox.2. Take backup of this blank store.3. dismount this store and mount the original store (the one which does not have the SA mailbox) and verify mailbox logon etc.4. Restore the backup of the blank DB to RSG.5. Try and Merge the SA mailbox only from RSG to the original database, and see if that works.backup of blank store and restore should not take much time.

Thanks. I will try this and let you know the result.

No it did not work. I get the following warning message while merging the SA mailbox to the store. And the SA mailbox is not getting recovered. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="unicode" ?> - <taskWizardRun taskName="Recover Mailbox Data" dcName="EXCH01" buildNumber="7638" runningAs="Administrator@TEST.COM"> <timespan startTime="2009-10-25 01:06:50.046" milliseconds="150" /> - <recoverMailbox>- <destination> <database>/dc=com/dc=test/cn=Configuration/cn=Services/cn=Microsoft Exchange/cn=Test/cn=Administrative Groups/cn=First Administrative Group/cn=Servers/cn=EXCH01/cn=InformationStore/cn=First Storage Group/cn=Testing</database> </destination> </recoverMailbox> <taskSummary errorCount="0" completedCount="0" warningCount="1" errorCode="0x00000000" /> - <items>- <item adsPath="System Attendant" class="user"> <progress code="-3" milliseconds="150">Approving object</progress> <summary isWarning="true" errorCode="0xc1034a00">Not available for exchangeAdminService objects.</summary> </item> </items> </taskWizardRun>

In this case, your only option is to mount blank database in production and restore old database to RSG and merge the mailboxes from there. Do it over a weekend so you dont have a lot of downtime.

Sorry for the delay.I have mounted the blank store in and recreated the SA mailbox, After that created a RSG and added the mailbox store and mounted the moved store in RSG and merged the mailbox data. It took around5 hours to merge the data but the attempt was successful.
