Text in Visio 2010 Keeps moving around when anything new is typed
So I have everything lined up, and I need to enter text to label something. I do that and suddenly I have to re-position all my text elements because they all automatically shifted up and to the left a bit. It's very annoying. Any ideas how to stop this?

Hi,

Do you mind sharing us some screenshots or a sample file to understand this issue more cleanly? According to your description, I suppose you have selected the "Align left" option. Please go to Home>Paragraph>Un-select Align left and check if it is helpful.

Hi,

It is possible that you are using special shapes that are designed to grow/shrink with the amount of text in them.

For example, the "Auto-height box" shape will change its height when in add text, but maintains its width.

But the "Auto-size box" will grow in both width and height. You have to manually hit Enter to control when new lines happen.

This auto-sizing behavior is very useful for particular situations. For your situation, not so much. I would suggest using simple rectangles using the Rectangle tool, or using standard flowchart shapes (if you are diagramming a flowchart). Or just create text boxes using the Text tool.

You can also move the pin/rotation point of a shape to the left side by clicking the status bar (lower-left corner) when shapes are selected,. Edit the "Pin Pos". Even grow-ie shapes won't move so much if they have a pin location on the left. They'll just grow to the right, but will stay left-aligned.

Hope this helps!
