Text (SMS) archiving/control?

What controls/archiving options does Exchange 2013 have for SMS messages for devices with an active sync mailbox on them?

TIA!

How is your Exchange server sending SMS messages?

Hey Ed.

Exchange isn't sending SMS, per say. But since Exchange does have control over the phone (I believe with enterprise CALs you can disable SMS) I was hoping there was some kind of archiving of SMS that could be done.

Thx!

Exchange's "control" over the phone is very limited.  You should be looking for a mobile device management (MDM) solution.  Microsoft Intune is a cloud service and MobileIron has both appliances and a cloud service.  There are others.

You wont be able to stop the mobile device from receiving text messages, which is what it sounds like you want to do. Something like that would have to be done from the carrier level, exchange wont allow you to do that. The only SMS feature you will be able to turn off is the feature that allows your SMS messages to also be sent to your inbox.

As Ed mentioned, a mobile device management solution is what you would want to look at for this. Mobileiron is a good one depending on how big your environment is.
