Test-OutlookWebServices - AutoDiscover Returned the error: 603:The server does not belong to a site.
When Exchange 2003 "Mailbox" users run Outlook 2007 they are prompted by an autodiscover redirect, after clicking allow it prompts sometimes prompts them to log in
over and over. Cancelling causes the box to go away but then it returns later.
Can Exchange 2007 CAS servers not proxy autodiscover request back to 2003 servers for 2003 users?
When I run the Outlook 2007 Test AutoDiscover all results fail including internal and external for 2003 mailbox users but they work fine for 2007 mailbox users.
Below is some testing I did...

When checking AD Sites & Services, everything looks right.
There is a site name Campus and there is a Subnet 172.16.35.0/24 assosiated with that Site.
Since the Node says it belongs to a site, is there something I need to do to get the Cluster Virtual Server to belong to a site?
Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Symptom: Exchange 2003 mailboxes using outlook 2007 users are getting redirection,
authentication prompt for AutoDiscover
Explanation:
Outlook 2007 client with Exchange 2003 mailbox don’t take any advantage of the AutoDiscover service, however the Outlook 2007 codes still
tests AutoDiscover as an internal process. Outlook 2007 will perform the following discovery but they all fails because client knows the mailbox belongs to an Exchange 2003 server
1.
SCP object if domain attached
2.
Attempt HTTPS against autodiscover.<smtpdomain>
3.
Attempt HTTPS against <smtpdomain>
4.
Look for redirect from HTTP of <smtpdomain>
5.
Look for SRV Record through DNS
Error below is the expected symptom when you use AutoDiscover on exchange 2003 mailbox
“603: The server Ex03ClustVS1.company.org does not belong to a site”
If the Outlook 2007 a valid response from the DNS (SRV record) it will prompt for redirection
Please try to disable these discoveries in the client machine (KB
948981), or do it via GPOJames Luo

Thank you James,
Sadly that is the answer I was expecting, but not the one I was wanting. Did I miss somewhere in the Microsoft docs
where it says "Warning: If you are migrating from Exchange 2003 be aware that AutoDiscover and Outlook 2007 does not support legacy 2003 mailbox users. Enable this feature or deploy Outlook 2007 after the users are migrated to Exchange 2007."?
Thank you for the hotfix articles, but they do not mention anything about the user being on a 2003 mailbox, and we are are not experiencing any autodiscover
or free/busy issues with exchange 2007 mailbox users.
Perhaps I will just disable the autodiscover redirects at the firewall and in dns till all the users are migrated to 2007 and then turn it back on, what
do you think?
Thank you for your time,
Scott

Yes, you can see the firewall and DNS settings as an option, although turn off the AutoDiscover could speed up the outlook
As for the reason that I posted the hotfix above, please see the “More Information” section in it. It has documented about how to turn
off the AutoDiscover methods you specified
Because, outlook will always call AutoDiscover at the following conditions which might cause delay
·
Expiry of AutoDiscover-defined TTL (60 mins)
·
On restart of outlook
·
After certain failure on the outlook
