Tell exchange that address should be treated as external
I need exchange to treat an address newsletter@mydomain.com as external and forward it to the smarthost I've specified in the SMTP Connector. When I send mail to this address from outlook, exchange (as expected) treats it as local and returns it undeliverable. Creating an external recipient with the address causes an NDR5.4.6 error (A configuration error in the e-mail system caused the message to bounce between two servers or to be forwarded between two recipients). The smarthost in this case isan Exim gateway with mailman (which willaccept mail to newsletter@mydomain.com and pass it to all newsletter subscribers). Is there a way to tell exchange that I want mail to this address delivered externally?

I've resolved this by the following...1) Uncheck "This Exchange Organization is resposible for all mail delivery to this address" in theSMTP Address properties of the@mydomain.com addressin my recipient policy.2) Enter the smarthost IP/hostname under "Forward all mail with unresolved recipients to host" in the Messages tab of the Default SMTP Virtual Server Properties. Now all unresolved recipients are forwarded to Exim/mailman.
