Syncing Outlook 2013 with POP/IMAP email - messages on server automatically marked "Read"

I just set up Outlook 2013 to sync with my POP3/SMPT account, hosted by JaguarPC.

All the messages come into Outlook marked as Unread, regardless of their status on the server. In addition, the sync process seems to cause all the messages on the server to be marked as Read.

So now, all the other devices that sync to my server (like my phone and ipad) think every message is Read.

Is there a way to get Outlook to retain the read/unread status of messages as it imports them? And then hopefully, as I ACTUALLY read messages in my outlook account and re-sync, the status both in Outlook and on the server would change to Read?

Help!

Best,

Bruce

Hi Bruce,

POP3 is download only, it won't sync read/unread status between mail clients and the server. This means changes you make locally, will not be uploaded back to the server nor to any other computer or device.

"All the messages come into Outlook marked as Unread, regardless of their status on the server. In addition, the sync process seems to cause all the messages on the server to be marked as Read." -- Some mail services have settings to control whether emails should be marked as read/unread while access with POP. This behavior cannot be controlled within Outlook. I'd recommend you contact your mail ISP to verify if this behavior can be changed.
