Synchronizing distribution groups in SBS2003 with Outlook 2010
I have made changes to the distribution groups in AD on my SBS2003 but my Outlook does not reflect all of them. Specifially a name change to a distribution group. I have looked at solutions posted but they babble on with techno speak that is not easy to follow. If someone could use English that would be of use. thanks

Depends on when you made the changes. If you make a Distribution List change, this change needs to be updated in the Offline Address Book. the Offline Address Book gets regenerated every night. Then Outlok picks a random time in which to get this new Offline Address Book within a day. So ther emight be some time between changes and realizing the changes in Outlook. If however, it has been more than that time, then you need to dig deeper to see if there is an issue with this nightly process. Also, you can check Active Directory logs on your Domain Controllers as well. Hope that helps.JAUCG

Hello, This is a 2 step process - one step in Exchange and one in Outlook. 1. Ask Exchange to rebuild the address book. (This is normally a scheduled process that happens at 4:00 am, by default.) To do this, open ESM > Expand recipients > Click on Offline Address Lists > In the right pane, right-click on the offline address list of interest (you probably only have one - the Default Offline Address List) and select Rebuild. You will be warned that it potentially could take a long time. Click Yes to proceed with the rebuild and then wait a couple of minutes. (in a small domain, it'll probably only take a few seconds to rebuild the address list). Now, you are done with Exchange which will have now captured your group rename. 2. Open outlook and ask it to download the updated address book. On the main toolbar, click on the down-arrow next to Send/Receive. In the drop down menu click Download Address Book. On the resulting dialog, click OK and then restart outlook and wait 5 minutes. Your change should now appear within outlook. Hi tech1958, Any updates? Please also check whether the update is reflected in Outlook Online mode. @Matt, I think OP is still running Exchange 2003 server... Frank Wang TechNet Community Support
