Suddenly Excel drop down list became not working in spite of other list in the same worksheet is still working - Win7/Office2010

Dear Specialists,

I use excel worksheet in my office to submit finance claim.

The sheet uses dropdown list(or, maybe combobox) and it worked normally until around last December.

Every month, I use it by copying the last month's sheet. But since December 2014 or November 2014, dropdown list in the sheet suddenly became not working. Please see the attached picture.

When I try to click the list, list don't appear and combobox icon is selected as if it is normal picture. I could also change the icon size like normal picture.

I checked similar article in this forum and checked "advanced option - show all object", "activeX enable" and so on, but couldn't find solution.

The strange fact I wonder is;

- After this problem found on the file after last December, the old files before last December which could show dropdown list normally were also changed into not showing the list.

- Another colleague who is using same PC as me is also experiencing same problem.

- Data Validation menu of this file is not able to be changed because this file is protected.

- Another dropdown list in the same worksheet is still working normally(please see the next picture).

According to these facts, I believe this is not problem of setting of Excel but maybe related to OS update or security soft update.

We are using ESET smart security since 3 years ago.

Does anyone have same problem and found solution?

Best Regards,

Iwao

Hi,

According to your description, this issue occur when last December, it may be due to the MS14-082 Microsoft Office Security Updates for December 2014. Form Controls (FM20.dll) are no longer working as expected after installing it.

Please see this blog and install the hotfix.

Dear Zhao,

Thank you very much for your kind and immediate support. And excuse me for late reply, I didn't know answer is already described, I thought e-mail would come when answers are described.

Regarding MS14-082, I tried to apply hotfix "excel2010-kb2956142-...", but "this update is already installed into your computer" message was shown, and problem has not been fixed yet.

I will try OffCAT.

Thank you for your support.

Best Regards,

Iwao
