Sub/partial string Searching in Outlook 2013 Index

I am attempting to search in Outlook and I am baffled by the idea that I do not return any results when I perform a sub-string search if the sub/partial string is in the middle or end of the full string. Meaning the following:

Full string I am looking for in my mailbox: "TALDC002"

Entered in search box: "TALD"
Result: Finds all emails and highlights "TALD"

Entered: "ALDC0"
Result: None found

Entered: "ALDC002"
Result: None found

Is this by (poor) design? I mean if it can match a partial string searching from the beginning of the string, why not any partial string, or at the very least, match the end of the string? Is there a way to enable this?

Thanks!

Tony

Hi Tony,

As a workaround, we can use Advanced Find to search for a partial string. To do this, press Ctrl + Shift + F to open the Advanced Find dialog, switch to Advanced tab and search using the following query:

Field: Message

Conditior: Contains

Value: ALDC0

Click Find Now button and you'll get what you want.

This works, but seems like a lot of hoops to jump through... Either way, it is a solution since this is by design...

Thanks!
