Steps for creating a custom NDR for people how have left organisation
Hi I want to create a custom NDR and link it to a transport rule, so that the EXTERNAL sender is informed - This email address user@domain.com [email address of the recepient] is no longer at the company. Please re-direct your email to user@domain.com Does anyone know of a step by step guide to create the custom NDR? i understand you can use ; New-SystemMessage -DsnCode 5.7.100 -Language En -Internal $false -Text Your longer message goes here however I am unsure if I have to create a new status code (e.g. 5.7.999) , concerned if this made up status code be recognised by other servers? What is the recommended status code I should be using, as I don't really want to overwrite any standard NDRs.

I just use a transport rule for about 30 days, usually we get this request when C-level excecs leave. Create transport rule, sent to user X, "send rejection message to sender with enhanced status code. For the status code you can use any such as 5.7.1James Chong MCITP | EA | EMA; MCSE | M+, S+ Security+, Project+, ITIL msexchangetips.blogspot.com

Hi, From the link http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb123506.aspx , we can see that: 'If you want to change the default text associated with the 5.7.1 DSN code, you must create a new custom DSN message by using the New-SystemMessage cmdlet. However, if you do this, the new text will be displayed any time that the 5.7.1 DSN code is used, including for messages that are rejected by other components of Exchange transport. Therefore, we recommend that you create a new DSN code for specific transport rule actions.' Hope it helps. If you have any questions, please let us know. Thanks Sophia Xu TechNet Community Support

Thanks for your answer, I have applied the following New-SystemMessage -DsnCode 5.7.228 -Language En -Internal $false -Text 'This email address no longer exisits. Please can you remove this email address from your system, and resend your message to <a href="mailto:mail@domain.com">mail@domain.com .' Then created the following transport rule, restarted exchange, and cannot find conflicting rules. The sent email to old users is just being redirected, and the custom NDR is not being generated.any ideas?
