Spell check not finding any misspelled words in both Word and Outlook

No matter what I try I cannot get spell check to recognize misspelled words in Outlook or Word.  In Outlook, even if i switch the email to plain text and mistype a word it won't find it.  Looking on the internet, I've tried the following to no avail.

1) Deleting all custom dictionaries.

2) Setting the custom dictionary to english.

3) Home-> Proofing-> Language-> Set Proofing Language-> disable: Do not check spelling or grammar-> button Set As Default

4) Forced it to recheck the email

Is there a way to just master reset all the spell checking options to fix this?  Or something else I can try?  I tried finding a Microsoft FixIt but couldn't find one.

Hi,

Are you using Office 2013? Are you using the same version of Outlook and Word?

Does the manually spell check work if we click the Review tab > Spelling & Grammar button?

Please also make sure the "Check spelling as you type" option is enabled.

Word: File > Options > Proofing, first option under When correcting spelling and grammar in Word heading.

Outlook: File > Options > Mail > Spelling and Autocorrect button > Proofing, first option under When correcting spelling in Outlook.

If still no luck, please close all Office programs and try the following registry trick to see the result:

a. Press Windows key + R to open the Run command.

b. In the Run box, type regedit, and then press Enter.

c. Locate the following registry subkey:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Proofing Tools\1.0\Override

d. Delete or rename the subkey.

e. Exit Registry Editor. Restart Outlook or Word and test again.

Please let me know the result.

Yes, only Office 2013.

Manual spell check does not report misspelled words.

Will try the registry trick and will let you know.

Hi

As per the information and details provided by you, to set the spell checker in Outlook, please follows these steps: -

  1. Create or open an email message, appointment, or contact, and then on the Review tab, in the Proofing group, click Spelling.

Tip: - You can access this command quickly by adding it to the Quick Access Toolbar by right-clicking the Spelling button, and then clicking Add to Quick Access Toolbar on the shortcut menu.

  1. If the program finds spelling mistakes, a dialog box or task pane appears with the first misspelled word found by spelling checker.
  2. After you resolve each misspelled word, the program flags the next misspelled word so that you can decide what you want to do.
  3. In Outlook or word only, after the program finishes flagging the spelling mistakes, it shows you the grammar mistakes. For each mistake, select an option in the Spelling and Grammar dialog box.

I hope this information will be helpful for you.

Thanks and regards

Is it strange that that key is not present? I have a user having the same problem but that key is not there?
