Sorry, something went wrong and Word was unable to start. (24)

Yes,,, yet another issue regarding the error - "Sorry, something went wrong and Word was unable to start (24). Plus I receive the excel out of memory error. I have tried multiple removals, reinstalls, etc.... The only thing that seems to work is disabling the preview pane in explorer but that doesn't solve the error when I open word from the link and choosing the file from recent files. But I think I have found the problem and would like some detailed information on how to solve. I could be wrong, I'm not, by far, a professional, but here is what I have discovered. I believe my problem started when I was trying to figure a way to distribute a 2013 access database. I have a 64 bit machine. The first thing I did was installed the 2013 runtime on my machine. I was still having issues when I copied the files over to my laptop. Then I read that it was better to have the 32 bit office installed rather than the 64bit. Then I removed the 64bit and installed the 32 bit office pro. Then I removed the run time. I finally got the access db to run on the laptop after fixing other issues... At this point I started to receive errors when I was going into word and excel. After removing 32bit and rebooting, reinstalling, trying the fix it, the problem still remained. So, I have downloaded the Process monitor. I have noticed that when I open Word winword is does createfile and is still referencing files from the 64 bit install. The only reason I suggest this is because when it executes the operation the result is path not found. One of the references is:"C:\program Files\microsoft office 15\root\vfs\ProgramFiles\X64\Microsoft Office 15\(different files or dlls here).  There is definitly some registry issues where the 64bit version was not completely removed. Any suggestions on how to COMPLETELY remove both the 64 and 32 and start over?

Here are some other test things I have done, maybe it will help pinpoint what reg entry is the problem:

Currently have 32bit. When I open word with shortcut, select blank doc, create and save. Then I can close, open with shortcut, select the file  I just created from recent docs, open without error.

If I go to explorer with the preview, open that file, it will create error.

If I open word with shortcut, open a file that I previously created or opened with the 64bit ver then the error occurs.

Any thoughts on what to try next.  Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,

Based on your description, I also think you need to remove the 64-bit information completely from your machine to try again.

You can try to manually uninstall Office 2013, remove each entry introduced in this link below:

Note: Please be aware of you installation method, the steps for Click-to-Run installation and MSI installation are different.
